Summarized Purpose: The Supervisor Sample Management oversees the quality and productivity of daily operations for PPD's Central Lab Sample Management team.Interacts with internal departments and identifies opportunities for process and efficiency improvements. Trains and schedules operations personnel. Prepares process documents, and acts as a back-up to management, when needed. Performs and/or delegates all activites necessary to ensure sample management deliverables are met. Essential Functions: Directly supervises administrative support and / or technical staff. Creates work schedules and assignments, ensures policies and procedures are accurate, trains staff and assesses competence, participates in staff hiring, corrective action, evaluation,and career progression. Responsible for sample accessioning, routing, storage, shipment, de-identification, relabeling, discard, destruction, and aliquotting. Reviews and recommends process improvement and efficiency gains. Recommends IT enhancements. Authors, reviews, and implements procedural documents. Defines and monitors performance metrics for quality and productivity. Serves as a back-up for management, when needed. Additional activities to support business needs. Ensures that contracted maintenance and qualification of environmentally controlled units (ECU) or equipment used to prepare or store specimens is performed. Monitors ECU trending reports to prevent equipment failure, ensures proper call response process and teams are in place to respondto ECU failures after-hours. Investigates and resolves problems with samples or shipments and in Process Deviation Reports/CAPA. Participates in audits and general capabilities department tours. Education and Experience: High / Secondary school diploma or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification required. Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic / vocational qualification preferred. Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 0 to 5 years). 1 year of leadership responsibility

In some cases an equivalency, consisting of a combination of appropriate education, training and/or directly related experience, will be considered sufficient for an individual to meet the requirements of the role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Good organizational skills with the ability to adapt and adjust to changing prioritiesand to manage multiple assignments with challenging/conflicting deadlines Strong written and oral communication skills as well as presentation skills Competent with computers and enterprise applications Critical thinking skills to support quality decisionmaking Demonstrated compliance with procedures and policies Demonstrated leadership abilities Ability to work in a collaborative team environment

Working Conditions and Environment: Work is performed in an office and/or a laboratory and/or a clinical environment with exposure to electrical equipment. Occasionally drives to site or client locations, occasionally travels within the United States. Exposure to biological fluids with potential exposure to infectious organisms. Rare exposure to skin and lung irritants, radiation, toxic materials and hazardous waste. Personal protective equipment required such as protective eyewear, garments and gloves. Exposure to fluctuating and/or extreme temperatures on rare occasions.

Physical Requirements: Frequently stationary for 6-8 hours per day. Repetitive hand movement of both hands with the ability to make fast, simple, repeated movements of the fingers, hands, and wrists. Occasional mobility required. Occasional crouching, stooping, bending and twisting of upper body and neck. Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moves) objects including luggage and laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs. Ability to access and use a variety of computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf. Ability to communicate moderately complex information and ideas so others will understand; with theability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences. Frequently interacts with others, relates sensitive information to diverse groups. Ability to apply basic principles to solve conceptual issues. Performs a wide range of variable tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability as to the occurrence. Ability to perform under stress. Ability to multi-task. Regular and consistent attendance.
