The following are responsibilities related to theAnimal Care Technician: Reviews, comprehends and complies with ASP’s, SOP's and quality assurance standards pertaining to a specific area. May monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations, animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include: perform daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols. May monitor environmental parameters and maintains written records, including room temperatures, light cycles and sanitation. Assists with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species. Perform euthanasia using correct guidelines. Disposes of animal carcasses following established procedures. Follows Standard Operating Procedures necessary to maintain animal housing areas and isolator environments, including personnel protective equipment use. May be required to receive, inspect and put away incoming animals; ensures and provides for sentinel animals in each rodent housing area. Operates equipment and uses supplies according to safety guidelines; performs general housekeeping and adheres to safety procedures. Complies with safety policies and procedures and SDS guidelines, including those related to biohazards and radioactive substances Maintains required attendance level and adherence to work schedule in accordance with required staffing levels in order to ensure that assigned duties are completed. Performs other duties as assigned.

The following are minimum qualifications related to theAnimal Care Technicianposition:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required with 1 year animal experience or a AS/BS science related degree with no experience.

Achieve Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) certification within one year of eligibility.
