  Job Summary We are seeking a Veterinary Technician 4/Supervisor for our Insourcing Solutions site in Poolesville, MD.

 

The following are the responsibilities of the VT4/Supervisor: Provides training and oversight to Veterinary Technicians to monitor performance and accurate completion of tasks Provides leadership and feedback to staff both verbally and via written performance forms. Schedules technical procedures and assigns daily activities to personnel performing technical procedures. Performs requests as needed to ensure completion. Captures technician time for customer technical service requests and provides data to the customer. Prepares and submits written reports, charts, logs and inventories as requested. Provides data specifically for the contract monthly deliverable. Generates procedure and support space areas weekly for all institute needs and sends out a report in advance for review. Works closely with Clinical Veterinarian(s) and Veterinary support staff to perform daily health assessments of laboratory animals in the colony. Provides animal treatments as instructed by Clinical Veterinarian(s). Performs daily colony health examinations and clinical observations of sick animals prior to reporting adverse findings to Clinical Veterinarian. Provides technical support (e.g. animal handling and restraint, place catheters, intubation, collect blood and other tissues samples, perform injections, treatments, surgical preparation and post-operative observations, and assist with research procedures as directed). Familiarity with and ability to use various forms of anesthetic and the means of application, including Gas and Injectable.                                                Interfaces with clients and customers regarding the status of their animals, veterinary recommendations, technical service requests and general correspondence in person and via email communication. Actively interacts with management, facility veterinarian(s) and investigators as required to solve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints and to provide technical assistance. Assists with maintaining accurate records of animal clinical cases and their progress via an electronic database entry system. Assists in assessing training needs, as well as, developing and presenting training for staff and investigators. Safely handles and disposes of hazardous waste. (e.g. Package for autoclaving or incineration, arrange special pick-up for chemical/radiological waste, document use/disposal as directed). Participate in all required trainings   Organizes and assists in the facility quality control effort for the respective areas of support. Job Qualifications The following are the qualifications for the VT4/Supervisor:

  Education High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required. BS degree in  Animal Science, Biology, or similar, discipline or AA in Veterinary Technology preferred. Experience :   Minimum six years’ experience as a veterinary technician with three years specifically being with primates.  Minimum of two years in a supervisory role. Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist level (LATG) required unless a BS or AA degree is complete.
