(Floor Leader) for our Insourcing Solutions site located in Bethesda, MD.

 

The following are responsibilities related to the AFS/Floor Leader: Review, comprehend and comply with all SOP's and quality assurance standards pertaining to specific areas. Create the husbandry work schedule for the daily cage changing procedures as well as the additional duty assignments. Conduct room inspections to assess the animals’ health and cage environment as well as all related paperwork and record keeping. Researching personnel issues involving the animal care staff. The specific responsibilities include gathering the factual pieces of information, compiling this information, and submitting it to the Husbandry Supervisor or designee. Provide direction to the husbandry staff on Operations and Facility issues.  Specific responsibilities include investigating operational issues, including gathering information and details, compiling the information, and submitting/presenting it along with recommendation(s) for resolution of the situation/issue to the Husbandry Supervisor.  Note: Based on the complexity of the issue, the Husbandry Supervisor may delegate the responsibility of resolving the issue and / or following through and notifying the appropriate persons to the Floor Leader. Provide training and mentorship to new hires in the duties and responsibilities of animal care and facility operations.  Any training provided should be documented in the employee’s training records within 1 business day.  As needed, monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations, animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include: perform daily water bottle and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols. Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing/isolator or support areas as required by Institute and facility.  Strictly follow all procedures necessary to maintain animal housing areas, including entry of personnel and equipment into facility, room or other controlled areas. Receive, inspect and put away incoming animals; ensure and provide for sentinel animals in each rodent housing area as appropriate. Provide quality assurance to include animal health surveillance, monitoring of effectiveness of facility sanitation, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), as well as internal facility reports for monitoring deviations from pre-established facility parameters. Assure that adequate inventories of routinely used items are continuously available.  Maintain a current knowledge of existing and proposed laws, regulations, and guidelines affecting the care and use of animals.

 

The following are minimum qualifications related to the AFS/Floor Leader position: Education:  High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.  Experience:  Three or more year’s related animal care and handling experience required in combination with facility and equipment knowledge. Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification at the ALAT level required; must be eligible for LAT and obtain within a year of hire or promotion.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
