In return, we’ll help you build a career that you can feel passionate about.isabled/Vet Job Summary We are seeking a R&D Scientist specializing in Data Sciences for our Microbial Solutions site located in Newark, DE. 

Responsible for developing quantitative algorithms/models through a combination of data analytics and experimental studies to solve classification problems. Will be an integral part of the R&D team that specializes in product development for microbial identification. Also supports product development across all Microbial Solutions platforms including Endotoxin Detection, Celsis Rapid Microbiology, and Accugenix Microbial Identification.

The following are the job duties and responsibilities related to the R&D Scientist / Data Scientist position:

•    Develop and validate algorithms/models for classification and detection of microbes based on spectral data from Spectroscopy (examples: Infrared, Raman, Hyperspectral Imaging) and Mass Spectrometry (example: MALDI-TOF).

•    Apply Chemometric methods for multivariate data analysis and/or Machine Learning (ML) and/or Cloud computing to generate and validate classification models.

•    Design and execute experiments and studies to ensure the efficiency, robustness, and reliability of products.

•    Evaluate the feasibility of new technologies and algorithms to develop products.

•    Proficiency or familiarity with general laboratory techniques related to biology and/or biochemistry and/or analytical chemistry.

•    Compile and communicate complex datasets to facilitate informed decision-making; summarize the results in technical reports and presentations.

•    Use scientific literature, conferences, market research and patent databases to plan and guide projects.

•    Works closely with all members of Research and Development, Product Management, and Technical Service through all phases of the product life cycle. 

•    Maintain productive relationships with internal and external collaborators.

•    Responsible for proficiency in all departmental SOPs. Job Qualifications The following are the Minimum qualifications related to the R&D Scientist / Data Scientist position

•    Education: Bachelor’s (BS/BA) plus 5 years, or Masters (MS) plus 2 years, or Ph.D. (0 to 2 years) degree in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Data Sciences, Engineering, Mathematics, or related field. Graduate degree preferred.

•    Experience:  4+ years related experience in Research & Development and/or Data sciences. 

•    Certification/Licensure: none

•    Other: An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

The following are the Preferred qualifications related to the Research Scientist, Biosciences R&D

•    Prior experience developing and deploying classification models.

•    Experience in Chemometric model building and/or Machine Learning approaches to solve classification problems.

•    Hands-on experience using multivariate software such as MATLAB, SIMCA, Unscrambler, or Infometrix for data analysis and programming skills (Python, R, etc.).

•    Knowledge of Spectroscopy and/or Mass Spectrometry and/or Microbial identification/detection systems. 

•    Strong technical aptitude for the development, integration, and implementation of algorithms and processes.

•    Demonstrated experience of working well in teams and with other departments.
