Perform basic to intermediate medical technology procedures.  Operate, maintain (including extended maintenance) and troubleshoot basic to highly complex analyzers (e.g., chemistry analyzers) Analyze study samples and review study ordered parameters and computer transfer/ input of raw data.).  Analyze and report proficiency surveys.   Assist in the training and mentoring of less experienced staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

•    Perform and record blood slide differentials, reticulocyte counts, urinalysis and fecal analysis with minimal supervision; prepare blood slide smears.

•    Maintain proficient knowledge of hematology, clinical chemistry, coagulation, urinalysis and fecal analysis.

•    Analyze and report results of proficiency surveys.

•    Review documentation of functions performed as part of quality requirements.  May perform QC functions and assist in log book review for entire department

•    Maintain inventory of laboratory supplies and order as needed.

•    Input raw data into the computer system and review data.

•    Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot of clinical pathology analyzers.

•    Identify and correct problems that may adversely affect test results

•    Perform daily maintenance and quality control of all instruments.

•    Serve as a mentor and/or trainer to less experienced staff.

•    Perform all other related duties as assigned.

  Job Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Education:   Associate’s degree (A.A./A.S.) or equivalent in medical laboratory technology (MLT) or related field required.  Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in medical technology (MT) desired. Experience:   4-6 years of experience in a clinical pathology laboratory, including at least one year as a medical technologist. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above. Certification/Licensure:   MT, MLS or MLT certification (ASCP or HEW) preferred or eligible for licensure within a year of hire. Other:   Experience with computer software programs is desirable.  Effective organizational and leadership skills desired.
