IMPORTANT:   In order to be considered for this position, a resume/CV must be uploaded and submitted during the application process.  Please make sure work history and education are added correctly.  BASIC SUMMARY Perform a wide variety of experiments, tests and procedures following well-defined guidelines; assist in the daily supervision of the laboratory.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist in monitoring the supply of feed/bedding/water/cages for the animal rooms.   Review logbooks and forms on a routine basis May assist in LIMS entries Assist in supervising laboratory personnel. Provide guidance and assistance to lower-level technicians. Assist in determining daily workflow. Perform tests and procedures following well-defined guidelines. Perform daily test article/substance administration, observation and recording of physical signs of species for contracted laboratory studies.  May also perform supportive serology testing as required by study protocols. Prepare cage tags and individual animal number tags; prepare and autoclave cages. Prepare data forms for routine study procedures.  Assist with preparation of data forms for specialized study procedures. Record study parameters as required by protocol. Ensure adequate supply of dosage equipment during the course of study.  Assist in ensuring adequate supply of additional study specified materials such as blood collection tubes. Assist in preparation of test agents and formulations. May perform more complex study procedures such as test article neutralization, titration, mandibular blood collection and tumor cell placement.  Assist in routine animal husbandry practices. Ensure raw data records are accurate, complete, and in appropriate order, and meet protocol specifications and/or GMP requirements. Assist in interaction with project managers and technical staff in planning and conduct of studies. Assist project managers in preparing responses to both internal and external quality assurance audits. Assist in planning and coordinating the activities of the department through hands-on technical support, communication with animal production / lab personnel and occasional delegation to other departmental personnel.   Mentor and train departmental technicians and technologists. Provide leadership and motivation to all departmental personnel. Share responsibility for general housekeeping and maintaining appropriate inventory levels of departmental supplies. Responsible for proficiency in all departmental SOPs with general knowledge of the lab/production processes. Participate in review and revision of departmental SOP. Perform all other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Education:  Associate degree (A.A. /A.S.) or equivalent in Biological Sciences or related discipline.

Experience:  Two to four years related technical experience.

An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

Certification/Licensure:  ALAT/LAT certification preferred.

Other:  Bachelor’s degree preferred.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  Regularly required to move about inside the laboratory, communicate and operate a computer. Must frequently be able to remain in a stationary position while performing laboratory tasks and use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls. Frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to use personal protective equipment (PPE) including gloves, protective clothing and eye protection.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Work in a busy research environment, which requires use of sharp objects, working around mechanical parts, working with or near known or unknown toxic or caustic chemicals and/or biological hazards, exposure to fumes and airborne particles. Work with biological samples with risk of exposure to, zoonotic disease, and biohazards.   The noise level in the work environment ranges from low to moderate depending upon the task being performed.
