Job Summary We are looking for an Asst. Facility Manager to join our Insourcing Solutions team, located in Bethesda, MD.

In the AFM role, you can do that by overseeing and coordinating the daily activities of the animal facility within varied environments, in addition to ensuring the health and well-being of all the animal species, as well as the integrity of the research.

What you will do! 

In this role,  you will oversee and coordinate the daily activities of the animal facility, to include scheduling, animal husbandry, and environmental enrichment for colony animals. You will oversee the animal surveillance program related to the husbandry staff, as well as all aspects of husbandry support, in addition to occasionally performing technical support functions required by research protocols, such as daily clinical observations, preliminary health exams of sick animals prior to reporting to the Clinical Veterinarian, restraining animals, blood/tissue collection, performing injections, treatments, surgical preparation, and assisting with research procedures. You may also be tasked with assessing training needs, as well as developing and presenting training for staff and investigators. 

 

You will also be asked to provide quality assurance to include animal health surveillance, monitoring of the effectiveness of facility sanitation, cage washing and autoclaving procedures, monitoring of incoming animal shipments for container integrity and animal health, monitor the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), internal facility reports for monitoring deviations from pre-established parameters, other quality assurance services as deemed necessary (e.g., water cultures) by the Project Officer. Another aspect of this position is providing data entry/report generation for computerized systems which monitor facility internal environmental parameters, security, or other animal facility monitoring and management requirements. You will also prepare and submit required written records, charts, logs and inventories as requested by your supervisor. You will actively interact with Project Officers, facility veterinarian(s), and investigators as required to resolve customer requests, inquiries, and concerns. You will also participate in interviewing applicants for open positions, developing performance improvement plans, and writing employee performance evaluations.  Job Qualifications Who are we looking for? 

A candidate that possesses a high school diploma or GED is required, has 3 or more years’ experience in a laboratory rodent and rabbit facility. Leadership experience desired or ability to demonstrate ability to lead. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for what is listed. AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) level required.
