A Project Manager- Construction is responsible for: working with a multi-faceted team that is responsible for the organization and smooth operation of the Facilities Planning & Engineering Projects office. This group provides the coordination of the construction/renovation process from concept (planning, estimating, budgeting, contracting with sub-contractors, assigning workforce, and verifying quality and progress in the field) to project completion while satisfying the customer and maintaining budget and schedule.

 

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to, those listed: Oversee all aspects of the day-to-day management of  large construction projects; monitor and coordinate work performed by architectural, engineering, and construction firms, as well as institutional, state, and local entities; and support staff. Organize the planning and formulation of design alternatives and solutions for complex projects; provide conceptual estimates, feasibility studies, and cost estimates, and may coordinate the production of basic design plans and construction documents. Develop and administer project budgets and fiscal controls, contracts, and quality-control provisions; performs project cost estimating and value engineering, as appropriate. Review and interpret proposed designs, architectural drawings, and building specifications for appropriateness to required function and/or institutional standard, and initiates revisions where appropriate; advise consultants and clients as to how best to achieve required results. Authorize the issuance of purchase orders and change orders and approve contractor invoices for payment. Provide construction, financial, and project progress reports and presentations to management and assist in collecting, analyzing, and summarizing construction and budget data trends. Inspect, approve, and accept completed project, ensuring conformance with standards, building and life safety codes, and architectural/engineering specifications. Job Qualifications  

Qualifications (Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities required to accomplish the essential functions) include but are not limited to: BS in relevant field and 7 years relevant experience; or HS/GED and 9 years relevant experience. Certification (such as CPM or PMP) preferred.  Strong skills required in Microsoft Office Suite, scheduling, and other construction software/AutoCad programs. Demonstrated ability to: handle multiple tasks and changing priorities; communicate verbally and in writing at all levels inside and outside the organization; be flexible and work in a dynamic, deadline driven, team-oriented environment. Demonstrated knowledge and use of AutoCAD software. Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts; sometimes on short notice.
