The Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) Scientist III position will prepare the successful candidate for roles of growing responsibility through a combination of structured learning, formalized feedback, and mentoring. The Scientist III will have the opportunity to interact with senior R&D leaders and participate in various key research initiatives.
The AI/ML Scientist III position will be based in the CSO Office and corporate R&D organization, and will report to the Sr Staff Scientist, Bioinformatics. The role will be based in Frederick, MD.

What will you do?
You will work with teams to address key questions through experimentation and development efforts on various in-house technological platforms, and be integrated with a team that is working on an R&D project to which you will contribute by designing, conducting, and overseeing AI & ML/data science studies and experiments. You will document your research efforts and work, share analyses and present results to senior level R&D staff and management personnel. You will have an opportunity to contribute to innovation and have an ability to develop ideas into real world solutions. When applicable, you will be encouraged to publish your work or present at conferences.

The position is offered to candidates with a recently awarded Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field required. The successful candidate will have a track record of academic success and scientific methodology in their chosen field.
Experience
Substantial expertise and interest in applied AI/ML, particularly within Life Sciences and Analytical Instruments contexts.
Skill in building and applying statistical and/or mathematical models.
Demonstrated proficiency in Python and R programming languages, software version control, and distributed high-performance computing environments.
Strong technical and people leadership personality is vital.
Strong desire and motivation to develop a career as a future leader in R&D.
Ability to manage, plan, and prioritize projects.
Demonstrated leadership proficiency, learning agility, and adaptability.
Understanding of existing & emerging technologies.
Effective communication skills, especially for presenting scientific results, keeping records and working collaboratively in a team of scientists are necessary.
