Engineer I, II, III; Safety Process Engineer

Description / Responsibilities

• The Process Engineering Group within the Chemical Engineering department of our client has an engineering position available in the Rahway, New Jersey facility. The department offers fast-paced, hands-on research that requires a high degree of technical skills and contributions. The successful candidate will work with chemists and engineers to evaluate, test, and report on characterizing options for a commercial manufacturing route to support development candidates. In addition, the candidate will create, or update Microsoft Word or Excel based templates for lab data entry and calculations to support that testing and have accountability for lab development to characterize processes and establish them to be safe and environmentally sound for commercial manufacturing. This role requires the ability to work in the lab with a variety of chemicals, use an array of characterization instruments, write clear and concise reports, and integrate into the existing work and culture.

Qualifications

• Engineer 1, BS in with less than one year of experience; or a two-year technical degree with minimum of 2-4 years of experience in a regulated work environment or equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the individual with the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
• Engineer 2, BS with 1-2 years of experience, or MS with less than one year of experience
• Engineer 3, BS with 3-5 years of experience, or MS with 1-2 years of experience
• Senior Engineer 2, BS with >7 years of experience, MS with >2 years, PhD

Required Skills and Experience

• Knowledge of chemistry theory and practice, along with process scale-up
• Experience in wet chemistry including safely handling solvents and chemicals, running experiments, proper disposal of waste, and generating and analyzing data
• Good organizational, interpersonal, writing, and time management skills
• The ability to strictly follow established procedures, policies and guidelines required to comply with safety, environmental and GMP expectations in the lab
• Initiative and independence to develop, apply, and/or improve new systems and best practices
• The ability to work independently with a minimum of supervision and also as part of teams
• Ability to work accurately in a fast-paced environment
• Familiarity with MS Office products
• Proficiency with computers and experience with local and web-based software.

Desired Skills and Experience

• Firsthand experience with experiments and data analysis using Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC) or other calorimetry techniques and tools
• Experience with in-situ or off-line analytical techniques such as FTIR, Raman, and/or GC/HPLC
• Experience with mathematical modeling using Aspen, Matlab/Mathematica or similar
• Experience with PHA's, Layers of Protection Analysis or similar risk evaluation methodologies.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing work assignments and deadlines
