ValueCentric, an IQVIA company, specializes in supply chain analytics and master data management for the pharmaceutical and medical device industries via our full-stack, software as a service application. We have agile software development teams consisting of development, testing and product, each supporting distinct sets of customers.

Summary: This management position is within the Software Development group of the Information Technology department responsible for managing a team of software engineers. The manager is responsible for delivering a high-performance group of developers who design, development, and unit test new features, feature enhancements, and bug fixes within the ValueTrak and other IQVIA applications. 


Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Best in class development staff:
    • Responsible for delivering high functioning development resources.
    • Mentor developers for continuous improvement including ideas, code, test and culture.
    • Responsible for quality of code developed from adherence to best practices, enterprise architecture, business requirements, and usability.
  • Maintain Business Focus
    • Maintains awareness of business priorities to ensure development resources have a good understanding of business impact.
    • Champion the customer as our number one priority
    • Partner with our Product Owners and Tech Leads for effective efficient development within the agile team
  • Evangelize development best practices:
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of programming languages, software development techniques and methodologies
    • Leads improvements in software development best practices, including Agile processes, programming techniques and processes
  • Strong Administrative balance:
    • Keeps team members informed and coordinated of company processes, priorities and general information.
    • Administratively manages employees, provides formal mentoring, writes and conducts performance reviews including development plans, and makes resource decisions.
      • Create effective onboarding plans to ensure minimum time to value
  • Value
    • Responsible for value proposition of the development team, ensuring teams are aligned with position and contribution
    • Identify new skill requirements in current weak areas or future need and cultivate staff to satisfy them


Qualifications:

Required

  • Working knowledge of modern software development practices; Significant knowledge of one or more System Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies.
  • Basic Finance and Budget understanding
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Strong troubleshooting and logical thinking for tackling assigned or encountered issues
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to be tactful when dealing with delicate situations.
  • Mastery of two or more contemporary programming languages or database management systems.
  • Solid understanding of relational database management systems including logical design and physical implementation considerations.


Preferred

  • Work experience in the health care and/or pharmaceutical industries.
  • Knowledge of data processing system design methods, techniques and standards.
  • Technical experience with two of the following:
    • unit testing software (e.g. QUnit, PyUnit, etc.)
    • “Big Data” technologies, e.g. Hadoop.
    • Business Intelligence (BI) tools, e.g. Tableau, Oracle Business Objects, Informatica, Essbase, etc.
    • UML documentation techniques (e.g. Activity Diagrams, “Swim Lane” diagrams, etc.)
  • Two years’ experience in project management
  • Familiarity with regulatory environments such as SOC2, HIPAA, HITECH or other.


Education/Experience:

Required

  • B.S. in Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent experience (i.e. at least four years’ experience as a professional programmer/developer with progressive accountability)
  • Five or more years as a professional developer/programmer (in addition to the B.S. in C.S. or equivalent)
  • Three or more years of experience managing a development group.


Preferred

  • M.S. in Computer Science or Engineering and/or Master of Business Administration.
