Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the SVP for the Site & Patient Recruitment (SPR) group, the Sr. Director assigned to lead the global patient recruitment function, is responsible for sales, operations, customer management, innovation, business process improvement and people leadership of the patient recruitment specialist (PRS) function. The role will apply a broad and comprehensive understanding of theories and practices as well as modern evidenced based methodology of patient recruitment planning and execution of studies conducted by ICON on behalf of its clients.

Travel (approximately 20-25%) domestic and/or international.

*Has direct oversight and management responsibilities through subordinate managers of the specialists' day to day activities and assumes responsibility for the results of the patient recruitment group which the Sr. Director continuously monitors through a defined set of resource, quality, cost and cycle time measures and indicators.

*Will ensure that recruitment plans and strategies are aligned with strategic and operating plans agreed upon with the project team and clients.

*Is responsible for selecting, coaching, and directing the patient recruitment teams supporting studies across a wide range of therapeutic areas and diseases

*Is responsible to manage and develop the ICON Media Forum consisting of a consortium of external vendor services with expertise complimentary to ICON core businesses

*Identifies business opportunities that will contribute to the overall success of ICON corporate results in developing the discipline and the role of the patient recruitment specialists and incorporates emerging trends in the art and science of patient recruitment

*Applies strict focus on process management to continuously improve the specialists operating procedures and results

*Will represent PRS on management teams and other cross functional teams to support and implement change activities and strategic initiatives

*Will ensure effective communication within the PRS and across the ICON enterprise to ensure integration and functional alignments on the use of modern patient recruitment techniques leveraging clinicians own pool of patients as well as driving new patients to investigative sites.

Recruits, develops and maintains a core group of highly specialized employees (Patient Recruitment Specialists) in the art and science of patient recruitment.

Continuously reviews salesforce and other resources reflecting the development pipeline for early identification of programs and studies with potential need for strategic patient recruitment planning.

Identifies and integrates internal resources and business practices essential for effective patient recruitment planning (e.g. Medical, Feasibility & Clinical Informatics, Site Service & Alliances, Marketing, FireCrest, Creative Services, Contracts, Laboratory services, Procurement, Consulting etc.).

Identifies, explore, apply and promotes the use of internal and external information resources and combines data assets that will result in proprietary strategic information on patient access in different markets, health care provider organizations and investigator sites.

Work closely with Feasibility & Clinical Informatics group to provide resources for the Patient Recruitment Specialists to obtain benchmarking data on patient definitions, enrollment rate, screen- fail ratios and number of patients per investigator site.

Develop procedures, provide resources and support scenario building and modeling for patient Recruitment and retention using state of the art methodology and systems.

Implements "probability based patient recruitment".

Manage and coordinate a knowledge base of external worldwide clinical service providers in the field of patient recruitment. Act as a consultant on recommending, evaluating and integrating such services in the overall strategic patient recruitment plan for a program or study.

Identifies and proposes resources, new strategies, procedures, systems, informatics, and technologies to improve productivity at the site level with special emphasis on patient identification, qualification, enrollment and retention.

Takes a leadership role in the development, implementation and maintenance of a set of meaningful metrics to measure the impact of strategic patient recruitment planning. Analyzes the metrics to identify trends, variations, successful practices, potential problems and opportunities for process improvement.

Develops a systematic approach to identify internal and external practices related to patient recruitment that can be classified as best in class. Applies knowledge and management principles for sharing these practices throughout the ICON organization.

Ensure that the Patient Recruitment Specialist group is in compliance with all applicable policies and procedures

Experience & Educational Requirements

A Master of Science degree in medical/pharmaceutical/biological or other appropriate life science discipline

Minimum 15 years' experience in clinical drug development and 8 years of experience in patient recruitment planning and execution

US/LATAM/CAN- At least 15 years of experience in clinical drug development and a minimum of 8 years of experience in Feasibility and Clinical Informatics.

EU/APAC- Expert with comprehensive experience in clinical drug development and significant proven experience in Feasibility and Clinical Informatics

Proven experience in business process analytics and continuous improvement is required.

Ability to utilize complex judgment based on advanced analytical thought

Desired skills include formal education, training or experience in marketing and communication

Experience in information technology (IT) applied on patient recruitment services specifically related to database structure and function, health information technology (HIT), other technical applications and systems represent a significant strength

must have people management experience and demonstrated administrative and project management abilities in a leading position from the industry, CRO business or from a clinical research service provider organization

must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills preferably practiced in an international clinical research environment

Ability to easily influence and negotiate with great impact on outcomes
