Job description

The OMOP Factory is a new team within IQVIA’s RWS Technology global business unit. Our goal is to ensure any patient dataset can be accurately, reliably and reproducibly converted to a standard format (OMOP) to enable researchers and pharmaceutical companies to run observational studies, and thus find out what works and what doesn’t in healthcare.

You will be the Service Designer in the OMOP software team, translating high-level business requirements into end-to-end services and products, creating user stories and influencing the product roadmap as part of the product management team. You will work with individual scrum teams to make the product vision a reality and in doing so, shape the future of real-world patient data. You will report to and work closely with the OMOP Software Product Director.

Working with a team of specialists you will learn 'by doing' - you are a service designer - and design the end-to-end journey of a service. This helps the user complete their goal and businesses meet their objectives. In this role, your work may involve the creation of, or change to, transactions, products and content across both digital and offline channels.

What to expect

In this role, you will:

  • Co-own (with the product director) the OMOP Factory product roadmap, including functionality, UI/UX and data visualizations

  • Work with the product director to prioritize stories in the team backlog
  • Review test plans and verify they map back to requirements
  • Act as the go-to enabler for the development team, supporting / acting as scrum master as needed
  • Facilitating decisions and risks.
  • Support software implementations, acting as a product expert for users and monitoring user requirements
  • Support the sales process, eg, with prototypes
  • Identify needs and engage with users or stakeholders to collate user needs evidence.
  • You understand and can define research that fits user needs.
  • You can use quantitative and qualitative data about users to turn user focus into outcomes

Our ideal candidate will be / have

  • Able to explain design decisions, work collaboratively and have responsibility for a service
  • Work independently after being given direction by more senior designers
  • Independently identify user issues and important needs
  • Strong experience in digital service design
  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies
  • Results-oriented with a focus on delivery
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic and hard-working
  • You can translate technical information and communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • You know how to facilitate discussions within a multidisciplinary team, with potentially difficult dynamics.
  • You can act as an advocate for your team. You are good at managing differing perspectives.
  • You are responsive to changes in technology, adapting your approach accordingly.
  • You can make decisions to meet user needs
  • You are committed to agreed good practice for the team, teaching new starters and challenging substandard work by peers.
  • You can recommend decisions and describe the reasoning behind these.
  • You can identify and articulate technical disputes between direct peers and local stakeholders.
  • You know about the importance of team dynamics and collaboration.
  • You understand the importance of feedback.
  • Evidence- and context-based design. You can generate multiple solutions to a problem and test them

Bonus points for

  • Experience in life sciences / healthcare sector
  • Experience of working within constraints. You understand the value of constraints and find the simplest, shortest and fastest solution for users.
  • University degree in a relevant subject
  • Experience of working in an international market, across different cultures and time zones
  • Experience with data products or data standards
