Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Lab Animal Technical Trainer (InVivo, Vivarium Setting) for our Insourcing Solutions site located in San Francisco, CA.   This position is offer a $4000 Signing Bonus!!

Summary: Under the supervision of the Attending Veterinarian, develop, deliver, conduct, and report technical skills training programs, and maintain training areas, learning laboratory and training animal colony in accordance with facility SOPs, Charles River policy and applicable Federal regulations.

The responsibilities of the Lab Animal Technical Trainer are: Coordinate training schedules and activities with Human Resources and Operations.  Coordinate competency assessment activities with IACUC and Veterinary teams. Formulate teaching outlines and determine appropriate instructional methods such as individual training, group instruction, demonstrations, meetings and workshops. Select and/or develop appropriate teaching aids such as training handbooks, demonstration models, multimedia visual aids, computer tutorials, and reference works. Tests trainee to measure progress and to evaluate effectiveness of technical training and level of knowledge and competency. Report on progress of employees to management during and following training sessions. Monitor trainee technical proficiency and make on-the-spot corrections to observed skill deficiencies. Maintain accurate and complete training and teaching laboratory records and recommend improvements/changes to current policies and documentation. Care for and actively maintains training animal colony in accordance with approved CRADL SOPs, animal care and use protocols, the “Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals”, and Charles River policies.  Adhere to and support Charles River Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals initiative and training directives. Job Qualifications Education:   Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or above in Animal Science or related field. Experience:   Minimum two years of previous training and successful "hands -on" experience of technical animal care procedures, plus an additional 3 years of laboratory animal science and/or veterinary technical job roles.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted in lieu of the specific education and experience listed above. Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level (LAT) or Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) level preferred. Candidates with ALAT certification must achieve LAT certification within one year of hire/promotion. Other:   Ability to handle and manipulate common laboratory species (e.g. mice, rats).  Knowledge of small animal biomethodology to include: breeding, common diseases, physical exams, anatomy, anesthesia, safe handling and restraint techniques, proper use of PPE, euthanasia, blood collection and injection techniques. Understanding of veterinary treatment administration, surgery/aseptic technique & anesthesia techniques. Proficient in basic technical skills and the operation of data collection equipment in barrier, conventional and containment environments. Knowledge of federal regulations and guidelines relating to the care of laboratory animals and conduct of non-clinical laboratory studies. Understanding of routine study design and animal use protocols.
