We are  seeking a Lead Research Veterinary Technician, for Insourcing Solutions site at Boston Children's Hospital contract, in Boston, MA.

  Position includes a $2,000 Sign on Bonus!!!

The essential duties for the Lead Research Veterinary Technician are: 

  Responsible for the onboarding and ongoing training of veterinary technicians in the following; animal health assessment and rounds, techniques such as injections, asepsis, use and distribution of veterinary drugs as well as equipment monitoring and maintenance, and veterinary duties as required.  Lead and participate in weekly Vet tech Meetings. Coordinates veterinary technical staff to ensure there is adequate coverage for the animal health reports checks and rechecks. Trains and lead new veterinary technicians. Provides support to veterinary technicians to help cover areas that are lacking coverage. Responsible for ensuring and maintaining veterinary records such as, sentinel health reports, drug log audits, inventory supply as well as ordering supplies for the veterinary group. Oversees the assistant veterinary technician with sentinel health monitoring program. Ensures that all animal rooms are rounded on a consistent schedule, meeting with veterinary technicians weekly to discuss and ensure complete rounds are being performed. Maintains quality performance of departmental and client objectives - including meeting/exceeding departmental standards with respect to animal health and welfare. Support and affirm the company policy of Equal Opportunity through Affirmative Action. Conduct routine audits of all animal holding rooms to ensure all health issues are addressed in a timely manner, post-operative analgesia is being documented, and special logbooks are updated per protocol. Writes, participate in the implementation and training of site-specific standard operating procedures (SOP's), in compliance with all state, federal and industry requirements. Oversee adherence to site SOP's and all required documentation related to department.  Coordinate operations with the assistance of staff support departments and personnel. Audit procedural space where animal work is being conducted to ensure it is being maintained by veterinary technicians through investigator. Actively interact with research staff as required to assist with customer requests, inquiries, etc. and to provide technical assistance. Act as liaison between scientific staff and support personnel. Practices, trains and assists in ensuring that consistent practices of general company and safety policies and procedures, including those related to biohazards, chemical hazards and radioactive substances.  Supervise to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.

  Job Qualifications

  Education:  Bachelor’s Degree, Veterinary Technology Experience:  Two to four years veterinary technical experience in a research setting. Direct  experience working with mice and rats including the ability to perform health assessments, common injection techniques, use of injectable and gas anesthesia, performing surgery on rodents,  euthanasia of all ages of rodents. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the requirements as listed above. Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician level (LAT) or higher.
