As an Animal Facility Specialist at our Charles River, Insourcing Solutions site in Poolesville, MD; you will provide oversight for the activities of the animal husbandry program. The animal care staff will need leadership and coaching for their continued success.  You’ll a ssist with providing quality assurance to include animal health surveillance, monitoring of the effectiveness of facility and equipment sanitation, monitoring of incoming animal shipments for container integrity and animal health, monitor the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC), internal facility reports for monitoring deviations from pre-established parameters, other quality assurance services as deemed necessary by the project manager. On an as needed basis monitor daily animal husbandry, and perform animal health observations, animal husbandry, and provide support to the nonhuman primate environmental enrichment and psychological well-being plan.

 

Oversees the cagewash operations and related task; audits all caging equipment to identify defects, tags those in need of repairs and sends to welder shed. Once welder has repaired, ensure caging is now in working order. Submits work orders for facility repairs, replacements, issues, etc. You’ll prepare and set up rooms for incoming animal shipments; oversee and assist with unpacking these animals’ by inspecting and housing them. Rooms will also get decommissioned as needed and repairs will need to be done to include replacing water lines, lixits, etc. All work is done following established SOP’s; Animal Welfare Act and the Guide for the Care and Use of Lab Animals. Job Qualifications Education:   High School diploma/GED Experience :   Three years’ experience in a laboratory animal facility with e xperience in handling/restraint skills with nonhuman primates. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.  Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification at the Lab Animal Technician level (LAT) or higher preferred.
