The post holder will be responsible for facilitating and leading the activities required in order to continually promote best practice and the ethical use of animals within the animal facility.   The post holder will be responsible for ensuring any welfare events are investigated in a timely manner and that corrective actions are implemented and maintained. </span></p><p style="margin: 0px;"> </p><p style="margin: 0px;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">The Research Associate will be required to maintain data and metrics critical in ensuring that animal welfare regulations are adhered to and use the data to help identify potential areas of focus and/or improvement within Animal Operations  This individual will inspire and lead through effective relationship building, influencing stakeholders and removing barriers for others.</span></p><p style="margin: 0px;"> </p><p style="margin: 0px;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Responsibilities to include:</span></p><p style="margin: 0px;"> </p><ul><li style="margin-left: .5in;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and in particular relating to Animal Welfare, GLP and Health and Safety</span></li><li style="margin-left: .5in;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Actively participate in tours, regulatory inspections and audits of the animal facilities, ensuring effective presentation of facilities, experience and technical abilities</span></li><li style="margin-left: .5in;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Lead timely response and completion of any actions arising from regulatory inspections or client audits specific to Animal House Operations. </span></li><li style="margin-left: .5in;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">As required review and update animal house SOPs, ensuring new or updated procedures are produced in relation to process changes or improvements</span></li><li style="margin-left: .5in;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">To maintain departmental global metric data and highlight potential areas for improvements</span></li><li style="margin-left: .5in;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Ensure that all welfare events are properly investigated consistently across the unit in compliance with company policy and government regulations.</span></li><li style="margin-left: .5in;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Actively participate in the investigation and resolution of quality events</span></li><li style="margin-left: .5in;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Lead and coordinate internal monthly departmental inspections across Animal House Operations</span></li><li style="margin-left: .5in;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Ensure animal care and husbandry procedures and training practices are regularly reviewed to ensure standards meet and exceed requirements for welfare standards. Proficiency monitor across the animal care team</span></li><li style="margin-left: .5in;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Promote Covance culture of care ensuring regular liaison with Animal Hose Operations teams is held</span></li></ul><p style="margin: 0px;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;"> </span></p><h2>Education/Qualifications:</h2><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"> </p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Bachelor degree in Life Sciences including Biology, Animal Science or Veterinary Sciences. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education.</span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"> </p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist level is preferred, but not required.</span></p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"> </p><p style="margin: 0in 0in 0pt;"> </p><h2>Experience:</h2><p style="margin: 0px;"><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Communication skills: Must communicate well with Veterinarians, Quality Assurance and Management Teams. </span><br /><br /><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Computer skills: A strong understanding of Excel and production of metrics.</span></p><p style="margin: 0px;"><br /><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Problem-solving skills: Ability to investigate and solve problems, identify causes, take corrective action and prevent recurrence of the root causes.</span></p><p style="margin: 0px;"><br /><span style="font-size: 10pt; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif;">Compassion: Must have a high level of empathy and strong understanding of animal welfare.</span></p>
