Director, Comparative Medicine Program & Veterinary Resources/Attending Veterinarian We are seeking a Director of the Comparative Medicine Program & Veterinary Resources & Attending Veterinarian for our Insourcing Solutions University of Maryland site located in Baltimore, MD.

The following are responsibilities related to the Director of the Comparative Medicine Program & Veterinary Resources/Attending Veterinarian: 

The primary duties will include overseeing animal health and welfare (veterinary services, husbandry service and related compliance) at University of Maryland Baltimore (UMB) schools and affiliates, including the UMSOM, and the Schools of Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy.  More specifically, duties will include w orking collaboratively with the IACUC on regulatory adherence.   Providing oversight of operations, with support for business operations as indicated.   Ensuring that appropriate quality standards are maintained in clinical care, facilities, housing, personnel, and equipment in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and policies.   Playing an active role in the development and oversight of animal user training and outreach programs for the UMB campus (Specifically the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Pharmacy).   Serving on relevant University and School committees.

The primary duties for the role as Director of Comparative Medicine will include:

Working closely with the SOM Associate Dean to ensure that research collaborations are well-supported by the Comparative Medicine faculty and staff, including those which require the Gnotobiotic facility.   Assisting or directing faculty and staff to assist Pls in including appropriate animal support on grant applications.   Ensuring that appropriate, high quality, veterinary support is organized and understood for all research projects, including projects requiring GLP standards.   Serving as a partner in and facilitator of the research enterprise across UMB.

A collaborative leadership perspective and experience promoting the highest quality and safety in veterinary programs are essential for both roles. Job Qualifications The following are minimum qualifications related to the Director of the Comparative Medicine Program & Veterinary Resources/Attending Veterinarian position:

We are looking for candidates with the following qualifications: At least five years of managerial experience in a leadership role in a academic/higher education research environment with budgetary responsibilities and a history of major administrative contributions to their organization. A collaborative leadership perspective and experience promoting the highest quality and safety in veterinary programs are essential. Applicants must hold a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM/VMD) or equivalent degree, be eligible for licensure in the State of Maryland to serve as Attending Veterinarian, USDA accreditation, and board certification or eligibility for certification in Laboratory Animal Medicine.
