Job Summary We are looking for a Lab Animal Technician III (Zebrafish Facility) to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Bethesda, MD.

What you will do!

You will utilize existing quality standards and procedures to provide colony management support for aquatic species, namely Zebrafish, Xenopus Laevis, and Xenopus tropicalis. This will include maintaining accurate and detailed daily records of information like colony health, water quality, breeding, and housing utilizing both written log sheets and computer databases, as well as reporting any abnormalities appropriately. Recognizing and reporting various parasites, abnormal clinical values, and/or animal behavior is an important part of this role’s function, as is performing technical procedures related to aquatic species (such as animal breeding and embryo collection), and culturing of live feeds to help screen for specific mutations. 

 

In addition, you will provide day-to-day direction to teammates to ensure all work is performed. Actively interact with customers to resolve customer requests, inquiries, and concerns, as well as provide technical assistance. Troubleshooting and performing preventative maintenance on aquatic support equipment and systems and maintaining supply inventories across multiple facilities. Job Qualifications  

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate would be a great team player, possess leadership skills and have great observational skills to identify possible problems with the habitat systems or animal health. Possess a B.S. in Biological Sciences with 1.5 years’ experience working with aquatic species: or a High School Diploma/A. A degree and 2 years working in an aquatic animal research husbandry facility.
