We are seeking a Histology Manager for our Safety Assessment site located in Frederick, MD.

 

The Histology manager is responsible for managing the histology department for technical and operational performance. The Histology Manager oversees coordination and execution of technical support services to pathologists and external clients.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  Manage activities of assigned group(s) to ensure effective coordination and execution of technical support services to pathologists and external clients Coordinate multiple concurrent commercial and government projects Ensure production schedule is met Oversee quality control and ensure operation of the laboratory in accordance with Good Laboratory Practices (GLP) Ensure adequate staffing, personnel, equipment and supplies are available to allow delivery of products and services as required Manage activities of assigned group(s) to ensure optimum performance of the group/function Responsible for personnel management activities such as: scheduling, personnel actions (hiring, promotions, transfers, etc.), training and development, providing regular direction and feedback on performance, disciplinary actions and preparing and delivering annual performance and salary reviews Assist in the development of short- and long-range operating objectives, organizational structure, staffing requirements and succession plans Assist in the development and recommendation of departmental budget and authorize expenditures. Develop and oversee the implementation of departmental training programs, including orientation Support the policy of equal employment opportunity through affirmative action in all personnel actions Ensure adherence to pertinent regulatory requirements and to departmental policies, practices and procedures [SOPs, safety procedures and bio-safety protocols] Review documentation of functions performed as part of quality control requirements Job Qualifications   Education: Bachelor's degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in biology or related discipline Experience: 5 years related experience; previous laboratory management/supervisory experience required Certification/Licensure: HT (ASCP) or HTL (ASCP) preferred; valid driver's license required Knowledge of GLP regulations Computer proficiency in MS office suite Excellent verbal and written communication and organizational skills with ability to interact appropriately with all levels of employees Demonstrated independent analytical and problem-solving abilities Ability to develop and maintain client/sponsor relationships and direct client/Sponsor programs Ability to work in a dynamic, detailed driven environment

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  Must be able to perform laboratory procedures, which require, talking, hearing, standing or sitting for long periods of time, entering data into a computer, using appropriate instruments, reaching with hands and arms, working in narrow spaces, and wearing safety equipment (PPE) according to OSHA regulations and company standards.· Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  Works in a research laboratory environment; which requires use of sharp objects, working around mecbanical parts, working with or near known or unknown toxic or caustic chemicals and/or biological hazards, exposure to fumes and airborne particles, The noise level ih the laboratory work environment is low to moderate.

 

COMMENTS:

  This position may require occasional domestic travel. May work occasional weekends and/or holidays.
