  Supervisor, Husbandry Charles River Laboratories’ Insourcing Solutions Department is seeking a Supervisor/Husbandrybased in Boston MA at our Boston Children’s Hospital contract. Under the direction of the Senior Supervisor, this position provides direction and leadership for the daily operations of CHB animal facilities and program. Maintains performance levels consistent with and according to Animal Resources Children’s Hospital (ARCH) standards and requirements. Collaborates with the veterinary staff to insure that the health and welfare of laboratory animals are maintained in compliance with local, state, federal and institutional guidelines and regulations. Responsible for providing back up and assistance for the Senior Supervisor. Responsible for assisting in the training of animal care staff in the following; cage changing, microisolator cage changing techniques, room sanitation, autoclave operation, cagewash operations, waste disposal and other husbandry duties as required.Responsible for developing and maintaining animal records including, room logs, health reports, cage card labels, autoclave records, cagewash records, animal census and other records as required. Ensures that all animal rooms are observed on a daily basis to monitor for sick, or dead animals, and reports findings to the veterinary staff or alternatively to the Senior Supervisor. Interviews and recommends selection of candidates for employment to the Senior Supervisor. In consultation with the Senior Supervisor and Human ResourcesResponsible for assisting in the training of animal care staff Outlines the job responsibilities of animal care staff, including site policies, procedures and the daily husbandry assignments of the animal care staff. Collaborates with Senior Supervisorand maintains necessary supply and equipment inventory to operate the day-to-day operation of the animal care program Responsible for developing and maintaining animal records Ensures that all animal rooms are observed on a daily basis to monitor for sick, or dead animals, and reports findings to the veterinary staff or alternatively to the Senior Supervisor. Interviews and recommends selection of candidates for employment to the Senior Supervisor. Supervises direct reports in their efforts to maintain quality performance of departmental and client objectives, including meeting/exceeding departmental standards Build competence among employees through conducting appropriate training activities and through appropriate supervision related activities Supports and affirms the company policy of Equal Opportunity through Affirmative Action. QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor’s of Science in Animal Science or related field.Two to four years husbandry experience in a laboratory animal facility of which twelve months in a leadershiprole.. Demonstrated experience in the breeding care and husbandy of laboratory animal models required.An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted for the requirements as listed above. Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) or higher and ability to successfully achieve LAT certification within 18 months of hire/promotion desired.
