Associate Directors have explicit recognition as senior team members and take management responsibility for the on-time and on-budget delivery of projects or components of multi country projects for clients in the pharmaceutical or related industries. They are responsible for mentoring, coaching and development of more junior staff within project teams and have line management and/or mentoring responsibility for several members of the Epidemiology team.  They are expected to play a significant role in business development through attracting follow-up work to successful projects and new work via industry contacts, RFPs and strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

General

  • Leads work relating to the Epidemiology, Safety and Risk Management business areas
  • Assists with development of epidemiology study protocols and statistical analysis plans
  • Utilizes the full breadth of epidemiological data sources, both internal and external, and where appropriate primary research to produce high quality and innovative epidemiology products and services
  • Presents insights and perspectives to clients, external professional bodies, conference presentations etc. to promote awareness and credibility of IQVIA epidemiology capabilities in the marketplace
  • Lead or oversee the delivery of projects of all sizes, collaborating with other senior IQVIA staff as required.
  • Mentor/manage other Epidemiology staff at Analyst, Consultant and Senior Consultant level
  • Contribute to other human resource activities including leading interview panels and managing strategic initiatives
  • Substantial experience designing and managing epidemiologic studies and staff.
  • Primary functions include the application of epidemiologic methods to the assessment of health and morbidity/mortality in defined populations.
  • Experience and training in the design, development and/or analysis of large health-related databases.

Business Development

  • Assists with the production of proposals responding to client RFPs and other sources.
  • Presents insights and perspectives to external professional bodies, conference presentations etc. to promote awareness and credibility of IQVIA epidemiology capabilities in the marketplace
  • Remains current on industry, client and competitive trends and directions in order to anticipate and identify new business challenges and issues for assigned clients.   
  • Support the strategic development of the Govt. Solutions business by taking responsibility for specific BD areas and/or clients.
  • Assists with identification of and follow up on new business opportunities, including making BD visits and presentations accompanied by a more junior IQVIA colleague if appropriate.

Client Liaison

  • Take responsibility for overall project management and client management on projects of all sizes.
  • Lead client and other external meetings in the home base country and elsewhere in Europe and the US, alone or accompanied by senior or junior colleagues.

Requirements

Training and Experience

  • The Epidemiologist has at least a Ph.D. or MD and 10 years of experience.

working with a research team in a consulting, pharmaceutical, or academic setting

  • Experience working with multiple data sets to generate insightful analysis
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, exceptional analytical and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously to meet deadlines
  • Proven record delivering projects on schedule and within budget
  • Preferred
    • SAS experience
    • Experience analyzing secondary data sources including insurance claims, EMR and pharmacy databases.
  • Experience and training in the design, development and/or analysis of large health-related databases.

Essential general technical skills and knowledge

  • Able to appraise evidence critically and review reports and manuscripts to ensure clear, concise language as required by the type of work.
  • Good understanding of epidemiology research and theory and the ability to apply this in practice
  • Skilled in MS Word/Excel/Access/Power Point.
  • Skilled in data analysis, writing and utilizing statistical analysis software code. Experience working with OMOP Common Data Model. 
  • Must be adept in the use of statistical analysis software such as SAS or SPSS.

  • A commitment to timely internal and client communication; with clients, IQVIA project managers and team members, IQVIA colleagues and others

  • Strong attention to detail on all project deliverables even under time pressure.
  • Must be a self-starter, with a demonstrated ability to develop collaborative working relationships and the flexibility to manage multiple, time-critical tasks.
