Qualifications

Principal Scientist 1: M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemistry or other related Biological Sciences or with a minimum of 2 years of experience in industry or academia; or Ph.D. with 0-2 years of experience in industry or academia

Principal Scientist 2: M.S. in Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biochemistry or other related Biological Sciences or with a minimum of 4 years of experience in industry or academia; or Ph.D. with a minimum of 2 years of experience in industry or academia

Required Skills and Experience Aseptic handling of Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell cultures Demonstrated skills in critical thinking, laboratory experimentation and data analysis Demonstrated skills in cell culture media formulation preparation Implementing and executing analytical assays to support cell culture process and media development Strong organization skills and experience with statistical analysis software Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work in a team environment Academic or Industry experience with the operations of fed-batch and perfusion processes

Desired Skills and Experience Experience with the operations of high throughput cell culture systems Experience with Mass Spectrometry Understanding of cell culture process scale-up and mass transfer

Responsibilities:

At Merck, the Biologics Upstream Process Development (BUPD) Department within Biologics Process Research and Development (BPR&D) is responsible to develop upstream processes supporting both early and late-stage biologics in a non-GMP facility, as well as transferring these processes within internal and external manufacturing networks. Implement and execute analytical assays to support cell culture process and media development Support the development of high-yielding and robust proprietary cell culture media to be utilized to produce biopharmaceuticals at clinical and commercial scales Support cell culture media characterization QualificationsQualifications
