Job Summary We are seeking a Sr. Animal Care Technician for our Insourcing Solutions Department located in Cambridge, MA. -  Position includes a $1,000 sign on bonus.

Observe, monitor, and document the health and physical environment within the Charles River Accelerator & Development Labs (CRADL) animal facility. Provide guidance to technicians in the day-to-day operations within CRADL serving as a work leader directing daily operations in the absence of the Facility Supervisor.    Collaborate with the veterinary staff to ensure that the health and welfare of laboratory animals are maintained in compliance with local, state, federal and institutional guidelines, and regulations.

The following are responsibilities relate to the Sr. Animal Care Technician Perform animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include performing daily water bottle and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols. Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as assigned by the on-site Facility Supervisor or Veterinarian. Assist in the training of staff on husbandry, veterinary case reporting, operations, and basic technical procedures (dosing, tissue/blood collection). Conduct QIA inspections of all animals holding and support facilities to determine the degree to which established levels of animal health, facilities condition, sanitation levels, environmental parameters and security are being met/exceeded.  Assist/provide input to Facility Supervisor regarding operations and facility issues as well as personnel management activities such as: scheduling, training, and development, providing regular direction of the facility. Serve as a role model for effective time management, communication, and utilization of resources. Job Qualifications

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Sr. Animal Care Technician position: Education: High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.) or equivalent required.  Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in animal or life sciences field preferred. Experience:  Minimum of two (2) years directly related laboratory animal experience in a laboratory animal facility.  Experience as team or work lead, preferred An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above. Certification/Licensure:  Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification from AALAS. Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG), CVT, LVT, or RVT certification preferred. Other: Knowledge of and skill in animal husbandry including safety precautions .  Knowledge of behavior and appearances of laboratory animals is sufficient to notice deviations from normal. Knowledge and understanding of the following guidelines and regulations: “The Guide”, PHS Policy, and AVMA. Knowledge of cleaning and sanitizing agents and their proper application to ensure that a clean and healthful environment is maintained. Ability to effectively follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with coworkers, research staff, and managers. Strong organization skills and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal English communication skills. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
