Job Summary

Charles River Laboratories is seeking an IT Engineer - Data Protection to join the Global Infrastructure Services team. This role will require a mix of subject matter expertise in cloud computing technologies, on-prem virtual infrastructure and data protection technologies. You will be challenged to find approaches that enable the appropriate data protection methodologies for multi-region, hybrid cloud infrastructures.

Role Accountabilities: •Accountable for deploying appropriate data protection and recovery solutions capable of meeting the business, compliance and regulatory demands of a rapidly expanding, global enterprise •Accountable for ensuring data is backed up consistently and that all failures are resolved and communicated to stakeholders in a timely manner  •Accountable for contributing to a high performing team that delivers consumable, standardized solutions for hybrid, on-prem and public cloud infrastructure services •Accountable for collaborating and consulting with other IT practices to support technical solution development and deployment

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  •Design, implement and manage data protection technologies in global data centers, global sites and public cloud environments (AWS, Azure)  •Function as an escalation point for L1\L2 support teams for troubleshooting issues •Ensure data protection solutions can achieve the RPO\RTO targets as defined by the business  •Design and maintain capacity and licensing reports for data protection infrastructure •Plan and coordinate hardware and software upgrade lifecycles •Document technical designs and procedures for compliance and L1\L2 support teams •Advise Technical Product Owner and management on service enhancement opportunities  •Collaborate with application owners, business users and disaster recovery personnel to determine proper technologies and protection mechanisms to meet BCDR requirements •Support evolution of on-prem backup process to cloud-native solutions in a hybrid infrastructure •Participate in multiple, highly complex projects/tasks simultaneously and prioritize as required •Embrace a team mindset and collaborate with peers on new initiatives, projects, troubleshooting, cross-training and knowledge sharing •Expand responsibilities and technical expertise by successfully collaborating with peers on data center, hybrid infrastructure, storage, virtualization and public cloud technologies •Perform all other related duties as assigned

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent experience in computer science, engineering, or related discipline. 

Experience:  •5 years experience in the IT field •2-4 years experience with VMware in large enterprise environments •2-4 years hands on experience managing enterprise on-prem and\or cloud-native backup solutions (Rubrik, AWS Backups, Azure Backup, Azure Backup MABS\MARS agent, etc.) •1-2 years experience with hybrid and\or public cloud infrastructures (AWS, Azure, VMC, etc) •Experience designing, implementing and managing data protection technologies in multi-site, on-prem environments and\or multi-region, public cloud infrastructures  •Experience managing backup and recovery technologies for both physical and virtual server infrastructures hosting Windows, Linux, Oracle and SQL •Knowledge of backup and recovery standards, procedures, terminology, and metrics •Knowledge of storage, networking, data replication, and virtualization technologies •Experience automating configuration and infrastructure tasks using scripting, infrastructure as code or other tooling  •Experience working on or with teams using Agile methodologies                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    

Other: 

•AWS or Azure certification a plus •Experience working in highly regulated environments (GxP experience preferred) •Effective communication skills for large, multi-national audiences  •Effective cross-functional leadership and collaboration skills    •Flexibility and willingness to learn new toolsets and solutions •Ability and willingness to cross train, document and operationalize new technologies  •In depth knowledge of hybrid cloud infrastructure design and implementation
