Job Overview:

POSITION OVERVIEW:

 

The Sample Collection Technician will collect, document, and manage pertinent data, having a primary focus on blood collection, in compliance with appropriate SOPs, GLPs, and regulatory agency guidelines. These collections may include toxicokinetic, pharmacokinetic, clinical pathology, antibody, pharmacodynamics, hemolytic potential, and other types of samples. Monitor animal health and welfare in compliance with the Animal Welfare Act and help maintain facilities for AAALAC compliance.

 

Essential Job Duties: Learn to collect and document blood samples for each study with a high level of detail and accuracy. Understand and interpret a study protocol. Responsible for independently carrying out technical phases of toxicology studies, including study management, data organization, QA audit response, internal and external client communication skills, and quality check procedures. Utilize computer software for forms and procedure generation. Learn to assist in client visits, debriefings, and study initiations. Learn to identify and take appropriate action with problems on study, and potential problems with protocols, SOPs, and schedules. Able to adapt techniques to new procedures or particular needs as directed. Maintain well-documented laboratory records according to GLPs. Report all animal care concerns and becomes involved in the resolution and appropriate corrective action, when necessary. Assess and document clinical observations, body weight data, food consumption data, environmental data and other data on appropriate data collection system as needed. Become proficient collecting the core sample collection techniques and processing blood samples. Learn how to manage and setup a study. Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Working Conditions: Mandatory immunizations and screening as required. Must be able to work in laboratory setting with laboratory animals. Requires ability to lift up to 50 pounds; frequent lifting throughout the day; prolonged standing; extended hand manipulation, including but not limited to, grasping and holding. May work with potentially hazardous substances not limited to known /potential teratogens or carcinogens and/or radiolabeled test materials. Work may require PPE (personal protective equipment). Must be able to work in confined spaces.  Overtime and weekend work as required. Education/Qualifications:Bachelor degree in Life Sciences, Associated degree in Laboratory Animal Technology, or Associate degree in Veterinary Technology (experience may be substituted for educational requirements) AALAS certification desirable Experience:No previous sample collection experience necessary. Some laboratory experience preferred, but not needed.
