McMaster University starts enrolment for cough drug trial

Researchers at the McMaster University in Canada commence enrolment of the volunteers for a clinical trial of the coughing fits.

The trial is designed to enroll healthy male and female volunteers 18 through 65 years and is being conducted at the McMaster University and McMaster Cardio-Respiratory Research Lab.

Among the population that cannot be included into this study are: current or former smokers with more 10-pack-year history; volunteers with current or previous history of other significant respiratory disease; pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers.

The trial officially began on Tuesday 15th September and is planning to complete on the 30th of September 2021.

The study aim is to investigate if changes in osmolarity using mannitol challenge can evoke coughing healthy controls with no evidence of bronchoconstriction.

McMaster University is a public research university in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The McMaster University Medical Centre is a multi-use research hospital that it is home to the second-largest neonatal intensive care unit and the third-largest child and youth mental health unit in the country.
