We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join Merck’s highly innovative and multidisciplinary Cell and Gene Therapy team to support biologics drug development. The candidate must have expertise in gene editing (CRISPR/cas9) of primary and/or immortalized cells, molecular biology (cloning, Gibson assembly, PCR, Sanger), human primary cells culture and virology (virus particles production and transduction). The primary responsibility for this position will be to perform cloning, viral production and primary cells transduction as well as gene editing of primary cells and in vitro characterization assays.

QualificationsBS in Immunology or related Biological Sciences with 3-5 years of relevant industrial MS in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, or related Biological Sciences with at least 2 years of cell engineering experience (CRISPR, viral and non-viral approaches)

Required Skills and Experience Strong technical background in cell engineering and primary cells culture Meticulous attention to detail, proficient reasoning and problem-solving skills in experimental data analysis and interpretation Demonstrated ability to work effectively and productively in a team-oriented environment while maintaining a strong sense of integrity and confidentiality Strong background in writing essential development study documents, including study protocols, experimental records, and study reports, etc. Preferred Skills Multi-color flow cytometry assays experience is a plus Responsibilities Primary cell (T cells, NK cells, hematopoietic stem cells), isolation, culture, expansion, engineering, and characterization. Develop and optimize primary cell engineering protocol using CRISPR/Cas9, as well as viral or non-viral approach for primary and immortalized cells Produce lentiviral particles and perform primary and immortalized cells transduction Design and validate genetic modifications using molecular biology techniques (cloning, Gibson assembly, PCR, Sanger, etc.) Work independently to execute experiments, process data and analysis, and help develop SOPs Efficient communication of results and proposing next steps to team members
