Job Summary We are seeking an Animal Technologist for our Gnotobiotics: Humanized Mouse Production Department located in Wilmington, MA.  

 

The Technologist will assist in the production, maintenance and shipment of humanized mice to customers. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:   Assist production staff in the creation and maintenance of humanized mice.  Perform routine skills including: Administration of various therapeutic measures by IV , SQ, topical, oral routes, etc. Nail//teeth clipping/trimming. Venipuncture techniques i.e. submandibular blood collection. Proficient animal restraint.  Monitor critical care animals.  Weighing animals and documenting animal weights. Perform euthanasia. Animal identification ie:  earmarking and lab-stamp. Maintain and monitor the health, production, and physical environment of Charles River animals within isolators, micro-isolator caging and/or ventilated cage systems. Perform animal husbandry which will include feeding, watering and cleaning cages. Maintain physical environment cleanliness, biosecurity and accurate department/animal records within the internal database system. Comply with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and operating equipment and supplies per safety and ergonomic guidelines. Perform animal follow-up observations or new findings as required.  Maintain appropriate clinical observation records for each animal in accordance with study and regulatory requirements. Assist in maintaining accurate record keeping procedures per study protocol. Assist in providing leadership, training, and guidance to other personnel.   Assist in keeping inventory and stocking the laboratory rooms (i.e., drugs, supplies and reagents). Assist in organizing and maintaining the laboratory rooms. May be responsible for tissue sampling, routine animal manipulations and administration of fluids or other treatments as required. Perform all other related duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) 1+ years related experience and/or training. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience. Understanding of Standard Operating Procedures. Excellent organizational, time management and recordkeeping skills. Excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Proficient in routine veterinary technical and husbandry techniques. Proficient in MS Office Suite.

 

 PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Associates degree in Biology, Animal Sciences or a related study or a graduate of a collegiate veterinary technology program accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Training Activities or equivalent program in veterinary technology.  AALAS certification at ALAT or higher level.
