We are seeking a Laboratory Assistant for our Safety Assessment site located in Durham, NC.

The Laboratory Assistant will perform basic support tasks within the Electron Microscopy department. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

  Assist in data recording Ensure the laboratory is clean and orderly Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), Health & Safety standards, and department policies/procedures in the performance of all duties Assist with inventory and ordering of supplies Receive, label, and store laboratory supplies Perform basic electron microscopy support procedures (documentation, to include document preparation, solution preparation, labeling of vials, and labeling of slides) Assist in tracking of equipment due dates and maintenance schedules Receive and log sample shipments upon arrival, identity and address sample discrepancies Prepare new folders and for new studies and organize existing study folders Assist with study finalization tasks such as data and slide shipments Review documentation of functions performed as part of quality control requirements

  Job Qualifications   High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) required Previous experience in a laboratory environment highly preferred Must be able to perform effectively as a team member, accurately record data, follow verbal and written instructions, maintain a positive work atmosphere, communicate effectively, and interact in a professional manner with management, coworkers, and sponsors. Experience with computer software programs highly preffered

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  While performing the duties of this job, the employee must regularly lift, move, manipulate, and/or hold heavy objects up to and including 50 pounds; this includes work materials, equipment. Must be able to perform laboratory procedures, which require, talking, hearing, standing or sitting for long periods of time, entering data into a computer, using appropriate instruments, reaching with hands and arms, working in narrow spaces, and wearing safety equipment (PPE) according to OSHA regulations and company standards. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  Works in a research laboratory environment, which requires use of sharp objects, working around mechanical parts, working with or near known or unknown toxic or caustic chemicals and/or biological hazards, exposure to fumes and airborne particles, working at noise levels ranging from quiet to moderately noisy.
