We are excited to announce that currently we are looking for a Medical Science Liaison Lead to initiate scientific dialogue within the vaccine area.  This role will be responsible for providing non-promotional scientific, educational, and research support. The MSL position is a field-based member of the Scientific & Medical Affairs team.

The MSL Lead will be responsible for field-based activities such as developing and maintaining relationships with key vaccines experts and building a well-informed advocacy base for our client’s product portfolio. The appointee will act as a channel for providing accurate and updated clinical, scientific and medical information to vaccines experts, health care professionals and other members of the scientific, provider and payer community, in compliance with all relevant company policies.

MSL Lead

The MSL Lead will have all the functional responsibilities of the MSLs as outlined above and will also provide coaching and mentoring for MSL skills development and overall performance.  The MSL Lead will be responsible for a smaller geography due to added coaching responsibilities. Goals will be accomplished by the development and execution of a business plan in concert with the business objectives of the organization and appropriate internal clients.

This position is based in Canada. 

MSL Lead

  • Serve as primary point of contact for the client and as the IQIVA manager for the MSLs
  • Same “Primary Functions” as the MSL with reduced geographic responsibility to allow for managerial oversight
  • Handle performance management, personnel issues, discipline and termination of MSL
  • Monitor and manage expectations in line with project goals as set by Client and agreed upon by IQVIA
  • Act as the primary link between the Client and IQVIA for all operational and human resources/personnel needs relating to the MSL team
  • As an MSL Lead, conduct field visits on an as needed basis to develop and motivate MSLs for achievement of objectives; to assess and monitor field activity and work schedules; to monitor and manage field reporting by MSLs.  This is in addition to working the MSL Lead geography.
  • Assist with the planning and delivery of training and periodic MSL team meetings
  • Assist in backfill recruiting, interview and selection of MSLs as needed
  • Provide monthly reports to the Client
  • Review and approve expense reports; monitor compliance with expense policies.
  • Monitor compliance with MSL Program, and proper use of Product Materials and Expense Budgets
  • Monitor compliance with PDMA guidelines
  • Monitor time-keeping and attendance

Additional MSL Responsibilities:

Maintain business and clinical knowledge of the vaccines landscape including current strategies, current and pending competitors, and new technology developments.  Increase Company’s visibility among leaders in the vaccines field. Identifies, establishes and maintains collaborative relationships with key experts, investigators and institutions strategic to product development.

  • Participate in medical education for healthcare professionals through presentations at office visits, investigator meetings, advisory boards, medical meetings, and other appropriate venues to enhance product knowledge.
  • Provide effective clinical presentations to internal and external audiences and tailors presentations to meet specific needs of the audience.
  • Identify and communicate key clinical and research issues and insights from industry leaders to appropriate Company’s departments to help shape company research, development, and strategies for investigational products.
  • Facilitate the identification of medical community educational needs around vaccination.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in support of needs of Key Opinion leaders (KOLs).
  • Maintain scientific & clinical expertise through comprehensive education including attendance at relevant symposia, scientific workshops, and review of key journals.
  • Maintain appropriate communication with Medical, Regulatory, and Legal personnel within the company to ensure appropriate timelines and procedures are met.
  • Adhere to regulatory and compliance guidelines and company policies in all aspects of scientific dissemination of information to include responses to unsolicited requests for medical information.
  • Enhance clinical/scientific knowledge of customers and colleagues through education and appropriate scientific exchange.
  • Address administrative and reporting needs on a timely basis or as requested by management, including documenting of MSL activities as required.
  • Provide scientific & clinical presentations to Payer groups as requested.
  • Travel 60% or greater, including domestic and international travel as needed.  Most meetings will be virtual until travel is deemed safe. 

Requirements:

  • Master level Biology degree, PharmD, PhD, or other doctoral-level degree preferred.
  • 2 years of MSL experience required
  • 5 years of experience in vaccine clinical environment required
  • 2 years of prior management experience in the pharmaceutical industry required
  • Knowledge and experience in vaccine field with a network of vaccine market relationships is strongly preferred.
  • Clear understanding of regional medical practice and clinical decision-making regarding vaccine acquisition.
  • Ability to identify the unmet medical, educational, and research needs within the regional medical community
  • Interpretation of key scientific data and ability to translate this information to meet educational and research needs.
  • Demonstrated ability to address educational and research needs through delivery of cutting edge scientific/evidenced based data.
  • Understanding of healthcare systems affecting vaccination.
  • Understanding of the design and execution of research studies.
  • Exemplary communication and presentation skills; ability to think strategically.
  • Understanding of and ability to implement field medical tactics/activities which include, but are not limited to: vaccines, current products, outcomes, and basic health economic parameters.
  • Understanding of highly regulated pharmaceuticals environment.
  • Ability to initiate and maintain relationships with medical community.
  • Ability to work with multidisciplinary teams
  • Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • French language is an asset
