E.2 Objective of the trial
E.2.1Main objective of the trial
To test the hypothesis that Elidel used on the face (b.i.d.) for 4 weeks in patients with moderate facial AE produces a superior quality of life from baseline compared to vehicle.
E.2.2Secondary objectives of the trial
To determine the effect of Elidel in patients with moderate facial AE on patient satisfaction, reduction in facial itch and time to clearance of AE after 4 weeks. In addition, drug utilization, safety and tolerability will be assessed at the end of 4 weeks.

Males and females aged 18 years and over
Active moderate facial AE at baseline
Diagnosis of AE fulfilling diagnostic criteria of Williams
Pruritus score of 2 or above at baseline
Patients in whom further use of topical corticosteroids is clinically inappropriate
E.4Principal exclusion criteria
Females of childbearing potenial
Patients who have received phototherapy or systemic therapy known or suspected to have an effect on AE within 1 month of visit 1
