  Job Summary We are seeking a Cagewash Supervisor for our Insourcing Solutions site located in Bethesda, MD.

The following are responsibilities related to the Cagewash Supervisor:

•Provides daily direction and supervision to cagewash technicians to maintain quality performance of departmental and client objectives, including meeting/exceeding departmental standards for cagewash facilities operation, facilities condition, sanitation levels and facility security.

•Coordinates personnel scheduling with business activities. Coordinates operations with the assistance of staff support departments and personnel.

•Conduct room inspections to assess the animals’ health and cage environment as well as all related paperwork and record keeping.

•Provide quality assurance to include animal health surveillance, monitoring of effectiveness of facility sanitation, heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC), as well as internal facility reports for monitoring deviations from pre-established facility parameters.

•Monitor daily animal health and welfare while performing daily animal health observations, animal husbandry duties to maintain quality and health of research animals, to include: perform daily water bottle /automatic water line and cage checks; provide appropriate food and water; perform cage changing and/or cage cleaning as required; record animal health concerns per SOP and/or specified protocols as needed.

•Builds competence among employees through appropriate training activities and supervisory related activities (e.g. recruitment, separation, performance appraisal, disciplinary actions, etc.).

•Participates in employee programs and activities.

•Conducts routine inspection of cagewash facilities, equipment, and materials to determine the degree to which established levels of materials availability, animal facility support, sanitation levels, environmental parameters and security are being met/exceeded.

•Participates in the development and implementation of site-specific standard operating procedures (SOP's), in compliance with all state, federal and industry requirements. Oversees adherence to site SOP's and all required documentation related to department.

•Supervises record maintenance. Generates and submits internal and external reports in the required formats and timeframes, including autoclave cycles, tunnel and rack washer operations and sanitation. Reports to management on operations-related issues.

•Coordinates preventive maintenance of all cagewash machinery, animal caging and transport equipment and materials; repair of same as necessary and general organization and up-keep of physical environment in areas of responsibility.

•Participates as required in the development of projections for equipment, supplies and personnel needed to effectively operate the cagewash facilities in a manner consistent with all local, state and federal requirements.

•Maintain accurate records of animal health, enrichment, environment, treatments, etc. as required by Institute and facility.

•Strictly follow all procedures necessary to maintain animal housing areas, including room or facility personnel entry; personnel protective equipment use, spraying in all equipment and materials into controlled areas.

•Actively interacts with customers as required to solve customer requests, inquiries, and complaints and to provide technical assistance.

•Maintains required attendance level and adherence to work schedule in accordance with required staffing levels to ensure that assigned duties are completed. Job Qualifications

The following are minimum qualifications related to the Cagewash Supervisor position:

Education: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.

Experience: Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a laboratory animal facility with cagewash operations AND minimum one year of supervisory experience in a comparable industrial, maintenance, or custodial environment required.

Certification/Licensure: AALAS certification at the Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician level (ALAT) or higher required.
