We are seeking an Animal Care/Husbandry Supervisor for our Gnotobiotics Department located in Wilmington, MA.

 

The Supervisor will provide daily supervision of personnel and operations to ensure achievement of departmental goals and levels.  Independently handle routine personnel-related issues; assist in the handling of complex personnel-related issues.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Develops production/service (or operations) and resource plans that meet goals in terms of safety, quality, output and cost. Ensures effective management of site operations, continuous process improvement, finances and budgets in close collaboration with the functional area directors within the company’s matrixed organization. Assist in the coordination and scheduling of activities of the department through hands-on technical support, delegation of responsibility and/or authority to departmental subordinates. Oversee production and shipping activities of assigned group.  Ensure proper record-keeping and report preparation. Review customer complaints and participate in the development and implementation of any resulting procedural changes.  Interview and select qualified non-exempt personnel.  Recommend personnel actions, including hiring, promotions and raises.  Partner with Human Resources and departmental management to assist in the handling of disciplinary issues.  Draft appropriate personnel action paperwork. Identify training and development needs of direct reports.  Assist in the development, implementation and delivery of departmental training programs; ensure that direct reports receive departmental orientation and necessary on-the-job training. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure efficient operations. Develops/supports corporate and/or organizational policies and authorizes the implementation of these policies.  Provides daily supervision of personnel and operations to maintain and monitor the health, production, and physical environment of Charles River animals within isolators or ventilated cage systems, to ensure achievement of departmental goals and levels.  Performs all other related duties as assigned.

  MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in a technically related field (e.g. Biology) or related discipline 2 years' related experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience. Proficient in computers (MS Office Suite). Effective communication and interpersonal skills. 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: One (1) year experience in a Supervisor or Lead position. ALAT Certification.
