  Job Summary We are looking for an Animal Support Technician III to join our Insourcing Solutions team located in Bethesda, MD.

What you will do! 

In this role, you will use existing SOPs and quality assurance standards to provide support to government contracts, with an emphasis on technical services, supervisory skills, training support, and Quality Assurance/Control. Technical support ranges from rodents to nonhuman primates, and you will need to maintain accurate record-keeping of breeding, health, housing, or support. You could also be included in handling and restraint, ear notching, tagging, breeding methodology, weaning, and sexing, tissue and blood collection, gavage, injections, tail snips, tumor measurements, osmotic pump insertion, pain scoring/alleviation measures, surgical pack preparation, surgical preparation, health observations, sterilization techniques, and drug dosage calculation. Quality Assurance/Control duties could include, but are not limited to, facilitating, and optimizing quality compliance practices, scheduling and conducting audits, as well as reviewing documents, logs, medical files, and training records for accuracy and compliance. 

 

Supervisory duties may include interaction with members of the site to discuss inquiries, coordination, or management of team scheduling, as well as delegating work assignments and ensuring their completion, and mentoring/training new employees. Training duties may include formulating teaching outlines and determining appropriate instructional methods, coordinating training schedules and activities, evaluating, and assessing trainees’ progress, reporting on training progress as needed, and maintaining training and teaching records to recommend improvements. Job Qualifications  

Who are we looking for? 

The ideal candidate would possess a B.A. or B.S. in Animal Sciences or related field, with 3+ years’ experience with animal care and handling, as well as technical experience, within a research lab program. AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) level required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
