Job Summary

The Charles River Labs Microbial Solutions team in Newark, DE is seeking a Sequencing Lab Supervisor. 

The Sequencing Lab Supervisor will be responsible for processing customer samples in the microbiology laboratory utilizing the various technology platforms including but not limited to 16s Sequencing, MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry, and stain typing. Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and GMP compliance. Supervise and develop molecular technologists and lab assistants. Provide support and leadership to all molecular technologists during daily operations and effectively communicate processes and procedures to the laboratory manager.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

•    Provide daily support to technicians to ensure that all laboratory functions are carried out within regulatory and GMP guidelines in accordance with 21 CFR parts 210, 211 and 820. •    Log and prepare specimens for analysis and perform technical procedures with accuracy and precision while meeting the standards of all accrediting and regulatory agencies. •    Comply with all aspects of laboratory safety, safety stations, safety manuals, safety SOP, and MSDS/SDS sheets. •    Provide support for regulatory agencies as required. •    Responsible for the supervision and training of Molecular Technologists and Lab Assistants including providing regular direction and feedback on performance, disciplinary actions, and preparing and delivering annual performance reviews.   •    Collaborate with the Laboratory Manager during salary reviews for Molecular Technologists and Laboratory Assistants. •    Develop and oversee the implementation of departmental training programs, including orientation. •    Suggest process improvements. •    Enforce work procedures and processes that support company and departmental standards, procedures and strategic directives. •    Assist with the validation and requalification of laboratory equipment. •    Supervise and guide molecular assistants and technicians on performance of lab procedures. •    Act as the primary trainer for other laboratory staff. •    Process sequencing and/or MALDI customer samples. May perform other processes including but not limited to Ribotyping and special projects. •    Troubleshoot sequencing systems. •    Provide routine maintenance, repair and cleaning of all laboratory equipment. •    Provide backup for all laboratory functions. •    Collaborate with customer support to resolve discrepancies with customer samples. •    Dispose of microbe cultures, chemicals and glass in proper waste containers. •    Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

•    Education: Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) or equivalent in Microbiology or related discipline. •    Experience: 6 or more years’ experience in Molecular or Microbiology laboratory. •    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above. •    Certification/Licensure: None. •    Other: Working knowledge of the quality system.
