Job Overview

Responsible for the management and oversight of IT operational activities, leading a team to provide related delivery and/or services

Responsibilities

• Partner with IT Community and business teams to deliver an ongoing IT program or solution

• Work with business stakeholders to identify and classify requests according to priorities and release schedule

• Direct daily operations of department, analyzing workflow, establishing priorities, developing standards and setting deadlines

• Develop and document operational procedures and metrics in relation to activities carried out by the team

• Produce and communicate relevant management information reports on metrics, performance, usage, etc.

• Oversee and provide expert analysis and input to incident notification, response, resolution and post-incident investigations.  Engage with internal colleagues and third-party contacts as needed to solicit cooperation and resolve problems.  Accountable for managing escalations as required

• Evaluate the organization's technology use and needs and recommend improvements, such as hardware and software upgrades; technical/process improvements that will lead to operational optimization, efficiencies and/or automation.  Engage with Procurement and appropriate IT controls to purchase IT equipment (where applicable)

• Participate in larger projects or initiatives as required, often serving a subject matter expert role

• Recruit, hire, train and supervise staff, or participate in staffing decisions

• Effectively manage team resources and delegate tasks commensurate with skill level, evaluating workload and quality through regular review

• Manage staff in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable legislation. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance and guiding professional development; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing employee relations issues and resolving problems

• Control operational budget and expenditures, as required

• Stay current with emerging technical innovations & application development technologies and solutions within relevant remit

• Ensure that any issues identified in QA or customer audits are properly addressed

• Ensure all IT activities conform to IT security standards and all data and systems are properly protected. Ensure proactive monitoring exists to detect intrusions, violations, or other unauthorized access

Minimum required education and experience

• Bachelor's Degree Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline

• Equivalent combination of education, training and experience in lieu of degree may be considered

Required knowledge, skills and abilities

• Strong management and people skills, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with peers, managers and clients

• Relevant technical, functional and/or process expertise

• Excellent computer literacy, organizational, communication and problem-solving skills

• Detail-oriented, analytical and self-motivated with strong written and verbal communication skills

• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and adjust focus and workflow based on changing deadlines and needs

• Effective team player with ability to complete tasks and projects while monitoring various aspects of operations

• Excellent interpersonal skills, working in collaboration with onshore and offshore teams as well as third party vendors

• Decision making and problem-solving ability, taking timely action and demonstrating judgment to know when to escalate and ask for guidance
