  Job Summary

The Lead Architect owns the architectural decisions and engineering capabilities for custom development teams in Charles River. They value simplicity and are not afraid to challenge technical constraints and procedures to achieve agile design. The Lead Architect leads teams to create modular & scalable solutions that adhere to best in class solution architectures. They drive the teams engineering practices in test driven development, continuous integration, and automated deployment. A good lead architect is keen to get their hands dirty, and actively helps teams solve the biggest problems. Last but not least, this individual is an executor as well as the visionary force behind CRL custom developed technical solutions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Designs the overall technological architecture of CRL custom developed products

• Guides project teams on technology strategy

• Responsible for the technical design of products

• Finds, attracts and mentors and coaches engineering teams

• Works hands on with teams designing and ensuring best in class delivery

• Engages in coding to help the team to develop their solution and solve all surfacing problems at hand. Helps teams identify and remove technical impediments at the team, program and enterprise level

• Works with Lead Product Owner(s) to align roadmaps with technical and architectural vision. Works persistently to ensure technical debt is not a hindrance to advancing product delivery

• Constantly looking for better ways of solving technical problems and designing solutions, not afraid of challenging the status quo.

• Provides teams a roadmap for implementing software engineering practices for the highest code quality

• Shares responsibility with Lead Product Owner for building reusable and scalable components

• Direct activities of assigned group(s) to ensure optimum performance of the group/function.

• Responsible for personnel management activities such as: scheduling, personnel actions (hiring, promotions, transfers, etc.), training and development, providing regular direction and feedback on performance, disciplinary actions and preparing and delivering annual performance and salary reviews.

• Develop short- and long-range operating objectives, organizational structure, staffing requirements and succession plans.

• Integrate activities with those of other major organizational units (e.g. segments, departments, functions).

• Develop and recommend departmental budget and authorize expenditures.

• Perform all other related duties as assigned. Job Qualifications

• Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering or related field.

• Minimum of 10 years technical experience, Minimum of 8 years of Leadership experience.

• Cross Team (multiple teams) and Cross Product (multiple products) experience required.

• Seen as an expert within the technical components of the domains/products/journeys.

• Seasoned developer or technical lead with deep insight into newest technologies and trends.

• Can make architecture decisions at a team,product and enterprise level.

• Experience working on projects that span multiple business units.

• Experience in Agile Development, with specific Solution Architect (or similar) experience preferred.

• Understands relationship with Product Owner, Designers and rest of the team.

• Experience managing technical priorities within the backlog.

• Active coach and mentor whose goal is to grow and maximize the team's potential.

• Excellent communication (both written and verbal), with the ability to align the organization on complex technical decisions.

• Proven leadership and negotiation skills. Ability to interact appropriately with all levels of employees, while at the same time support the efforts of departmental teams.
