Job Summary Charles River Insourcing Solutions, is seeking an Animal Care Technician 2, for their client in Framingham, MA. 

 

 Position includes a $1,000 sign on bonus.

 

The candidate will observe, monitor and document the health and physical environment within the client’s animal facility. Perform animal care and husbandry, including receiving, cage wash duties and sanitation.

 

The essential duties for the Animal Care Technician 2 are:  

•    Review, comprehend and comply with all SLPs and training pertaining to laboratory animals and staff safety.

•    Capable to changing 1000 complete cage set-ups on a weekly basis.

•    Manages own work to ensure that agreed targets are met in a timely manner and to agreed quality standards and welfare

•    Perform daily cage wash duties and sanitation.  Follows sanitization schedules within vivarium.

•    Provide basic start up and shut down procedures on equipment (cage washer, autoclave, water production)

•    Perform quality assurance measures (temperature temps, watering testing, BIs, RODAC and/or ATP monitoring) and maintain such records.

•    Maintain accurate records of animal breeding, health, and housing including for any support areas. 

•    Assist with restraint, handling and manipulation of various animal species as needed. 

•    Strictly follow all procedures necessary to maintain animal housing areas.

•    Receive, inspect and house incoming animals.

•    Use applicable software for the tracking of animals including census and generation of cage cards.

•    May be involved in maintaining and following breeding and weaning procedures to ensure appropriate production levels. Able to manage a small breeding colony.

•    Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines; perform general housekeeping and adheres to safety procedures.

•    Maintain required attendance level and adherence to work schedule in accordance with required staffing levels in order to ensure that assigned duties are completed.

 The work schedule is Monday - Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm. Job Qualifications

  Education:   High school diploma, General Education Degree (G.E.D.) or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree (B.A./B.S.) in animal or life sciences field preferred. Experience:   Minimum of 4 years directly related laboratory animal experience in an AAALAC accredited facility. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above. Certification/Licensure:  AALAS certification at the LAT level or above required Other: Proficiency with rodent identification methods, and maintaining rodent breeding records. Ability to effectively follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment. Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with coworkers, research staff, and managers. Strong organization skills and attention to detail. Strong written and verbal English communication skills. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
