Job Summary We are seeking a Research Specialist 4 for our Insourcing Solutions site in Bethesda, MD. This position offers a $2,000 signing bonus. 

 

The following are the responsibilities of the Research Specialist 4:

 

•    Plans, executes, and arranges laboratory experiments, new techniques and procedures; and performs laboratory techniques relating to scientific research, including molecular biology and cell/tissue culture maintenance. 

•    Operates laboratory machines and instruments; and prepares specimens and equipment for use. 

•    Performs sample management and storage. 

•    Analyzes, documents and reports on all procedures performed. 

•    Trains/onboards new lab members in performing routine laboratory tests and procedures. 

•    Provides insights and expertise and recommends new strategies and approaches. 

•    Perform molecular biology tasks (e.g. PCR, cloning, restriction digests, gel electrophoresis, sequencing and verification of constructs, making mRNA, DNA isolation, RNA isolation, etc)

•    Perform tasks related to human samples (cataloging, DNA isolation, RNA isolation, generate LCLs, isolates pBMCs, CD31+ bead selection, generate fibroblast lines, etc)

•    Perform zebrafish related tasks (Blast comparison to human genome, genotype zebrafish, zebrafish microinjection, zebrafish microscopy, drug screening, western blotting, maintenance of zebrafish lines- including coordinating import and export etc)

•    Cell related tasks: (cell culture, transfection, transduction, making organoids, western blotting, immunostaining, microscopy, etc)

•    Data analysis of experiments including using appropriate statistical analysis

•    Participate in lab meetings, present findings at both internal lab meetings and local, national, international conferences as appropriate

•    Assist other members in lab with 2 person projects as needed

•    Lab organization/lab management

o    Use filemaker pro database for plasmid and sample management

•    Provide technical support for the lab in accordance with specific protocols.

•    Collect and analyze data for preparation of manuscripts.

•    Keep daily organized, accurate and detailed records of lab work and experiments.  Identify potential problems in recording, storage and retrieval of information.  

•    Actively interact with customers and lab users as required to solve requests, inquiries, and complaints and to provide technical assistance. 

•    Prepare and submit written reports, charts, logs, technical operational sheets, and inventories as requested by Supervisor.

•    Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies.  

•    Assist with the receipt, stocking and maintenance of supply inventories.  Job Qualifications Education:  Ph.D. in Microbiology and Molecular Biology Experience:  Four or more years of experience working in an animal research environment using molecular and cell culture techniques.  Bioinformatics experience is not required, but must be willingness to learn . Certification/Licensure:  None required.
