Job Summary A Metrology Professional will apply measurement science, mathematics, and physics to develop, document, and maintain calibration systems, procedures, and methods for electrical, dimensional, optical, physical, mechanical, environmental, and/or chemical inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM&TE) based on analysis of measurement problems, and accuracy and precision requirements. The individual in this role will evaluate new calibration methods and procedures; use statistics to analyze measurement standards and processes; recommend calibration standards and IM&TE.  In addition, a Metrology Professional is responsible for: performing moderately complex calibrations/repairs and supporting data reviews/management; writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs); consulting with internal and external customers; and providing training on instrumentation.

Essential Functions (The fundamental Duties & Responsibilities of the role (products and services provided/results accomplished) include, but are not limited to, those listed:  

•    Apply measurement science, mathematics, and physics to develop, document, and maintain calibration systems, develop procedures and methods for testing.

•    Apply knowledge of measurement science, mathematics, physics, and electronics to calibrate inspection, measurement, and test equipment.

•    Provide analysis of measurement problems, and accuracy and precision requirements.

•    Evaluate new calibration methods and procedures.

•    Identify and utilize appropriate measurement procedures.

•    Recommend calibration standards and IM&TE.

•    Perform corrective actions to address identified measurement problems.

•    Performs routine and complex calibrations, qualifications, and repairs.

•    Provides internal and external training on new instrumentation processes and/or instrumentation maintenance, calibration, and/or qualification procedures.

•    Provide expertise for projects, new instrument acquisition, scheduling and consulting with internal and external customers. 

•    Review current maintenance practices utilized at the company and incorporate the best practices from current industry trends.

•    Create, modify, and review technical documents, including SOPs required for instrument support.

•    Mentor colleagues on calibrations, maintenance, and repairs.

•    Perform data reviews of internal a well as external documents generated in support of instrument maintenance, calibration, and repair.

•    Manage instrument lists through creation, modification, and decommission.

•    Scan/upload documents to the instrument database.

•    Host external vendors, as needed.

•    Prepare requisitions in support of instrument maintenance and repair.

•    Plan and conduct training on instrumentation assigned to Metrology and train staff as appropriate.

•    Provide support to all Metrology staff, as appropriate.

  Job Qualifications

Qualifications (Knowledge, Experience, Skills and Abilities required to accomplish the essential functions) include but are not limited to:

•    HS/GED/ with 4 or more years of relevant experience; contract research organization experience preferred and American Society for Quality Certified Calibration Technician (ASQ CCT) certification preferred; or, Bachelor’s degree with 2 or more years of relevant experience; contract research organization experience and ASQ CCT certification preferred; or, Master’s degree with 1 or more years of relevant experience; contract research organization experience and ASQ CCT certification preferred. 

•    An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.  

•    A working knowledge of systems required to perform daily tasks (e.g., QAAD, ExyLIMS, eDocs, etc.)

•    Ability to communicate verbally and in writing at all levels inside and outside the organization.

•    Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite.

•    Computer skills, commensurate with Essential Functions, including the ability to learn a validated system.

•    Ability to work extended hours beyond normal work schedule to include, but not limited to evenings, weekends, extended shifts, and/or extra shifts, sometimes on short notice.

•    Ability to work under specific time constraints.
