Job Summary

The Business Specialist is responsible for the coordination and creation of study outlines, Statements of Work and Amended Statements of Work for an assigned area of expertise, including the provision of specific advice and guidance in the design of customized study outlines, to support the business acquisition process.  Work with Client Services, Scientific Operations, Business Development, Project Coordination and Business Finance teams, as required, to ensure that a high-quality customer service is provided. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Coordinate and facilitate the creation of study outlines, Statements of Work and Amended Statements of Work for an assigned area of expertise to ensure smooth and timely business process flow.
  • Support Client Services in the qualification and interpretation of clients’ needs to generate appropriate study outlines.
  • Provide specific advice and guidance to support the design of customized study outlines.
  • Participate in client calls, meetings and communications, as required.  
  • Use available information to create study outlines, Statements of Work and Amended Statements of Work using company systems and tools.
  • As required, coordinate across global Safety Assessment sites, local and global Scientific Operations, vendors, subcontractors, and consultants to ensure appropriate inputs into the pricing process.
  • Provide pricing recommendations and ensure compliance with appropriate pricing approval processes.
  • Coordinate, update and maintain all Amended Statement of Work activity based on study revisions and contractual changes, e.g. study postponements and cancellations.
  • Verify with Client Services that additional costs have been communicated to the sponsor and approved.
  • Monitor standard study outline templates, inputs and processes to ensure accuracy and consistency with Scientific Operations practices.
  • Provide recommendations regarding operational efficiencies and process improvements. 
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.A. /B.S.) or equivalent in biological sciences, business management or related discipline with 3-5 years related experience;
  • Master’s degree (M.A./M.S.) with 1-3 years related experience required.
  • Advanced education preferred.

Experience:

  • 3-5 years related experience in project management in a laboratory or research environment.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

Other:

  • Ability to multi-task, excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational skills, and attention to detail.
  • Possess analytical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and re-evaluate priorities as situations change.
  • Working knowledge of computer software (MS Office, MS Project, Excel and database experience preferred), knowledge of Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) regulations.
  • Working knowledge of SAP applications a plus.

Compensation Data

The pay range for this position is $50-75K. Please note that salaries vary within the range based on factors including, but not limited to, experience, skills, education, certifications, and location.
