Basic Summary

We are seeking multiple Laboratory Technician 1's for our Biologics Testing Solutions site located in Wayne, or Malvern , PA. You may be required to work a rotating shift schedule that may require weekend hours.

Under direct supervision, the Laboratory Technician I will perform basic daily laboratory tasks as they relate to the hiring department. Possible hiring departments may include any of the following: Analytical, Cell Culture, Manufacturing Services, Methods Development, Methods Qualification and Validation, Microbiology (including Environmental Monitoring, Sterile Services and Mycoplasma), Molecular Biology, Process Evaluation, and Virology.  While the specific details of this position may vary slightly across departments, the main duties and responsibilities noted below will generally apply to all departments.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Maintain a safe working environment by adhering to Company policies and procedures.
  • Perform daily laboratory operations. 
  • Maintain inventories of all supplies/buffers used in projects.
  • Perform routine experiments, tests, and procedures following well-defined guidelines. 
  • Follow all protocols, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and cGMPs as they relate to specific tasks.
  • Perform routine laboratory maintenance including, but not limited to, cleaning of equipment, stocking of the laboratory, and disposing of laboratory waste.
  • May be required to complete cleanroom gowning certification which requires heightened PPE.
  • Prepare reagents including buffers, chemical solutions, complex mixtures, and media according to standard methods and protocols.
  • Perform tasks using aseptic techniques which may include work within a biological safety cabinet.
  • Report results of experiments, tests, and procedures and analyze data.
  • Efficiently organize and plan daily activities. 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree (B.S.) or equivalent in biology or related discipline.
  • Experience: 0 to 1 years related experience in a biological laboratory.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
  • Certification/Licensure: None.
  • Other: Knowledge of cGMPs or regulatory affairs pertaining to the pharmaceutical and biological industries is preferred. Should have a general understanding of basic laboratory techniques and principles. Must be able to perform basic math functions.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills to maintain communication across functional groups and communicate effectively in a small group or one on one setting. Knowledge of basic Microsoft Office applications are a plus.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • May be required to remain in a stationary position for long periods of time while performing laboratory tasks.
  • Regularly observes, inspects, and interprets laboratory experiments which may require close vision and the ability to adjust focus and detect different colors.
  • Frequently required to walk, sit, stand, reach with hands and arms, and use hands to manipulate objects, tools, or controls.
  • Frequently operates laboratory pipettes.
  • Regularly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
  • Regularly lifts and/or moves objects weighing up to 10 pounds. May occasionally lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work primarily performed on-site under general laboratory working conditions.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Wears protective clothing which may include goggles, face shield, surgical mask, hair cover, gloves, scrubs, and/or shoe coverings.
  • Works with or near toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • May work with biohazardous materials (i.e., tissues, blood products, and viruses) in a controlled environment with the appropriate PPE and controls.
  • Regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
  • May work with fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals in a controlled environment with the appropriate PPE and controls.
