  Job Summary  

The Associate Director, Infrastructure Hosting Services will be responsible for operating and driving the continuous evolution and improvement of Charles River Labs global data centers along with enterprise compute, storage, backup and disaster recover technologies. This role will also lead and support the evolution of our data center services as we migrate to public cloud environments.  Charles River Labs has adopted a cloud-first mindset to leverage the scale, security, and advanced technologies the cloud provides.  

The candidate should have a proven track record of strategy development and execution. This role requires a unique individual with a broad range of technical skills from infrastructure to applications as well as strong leadership capabilities. Outcomes directed by this role will have a significant impact on the organization's short and long-term results and strategic business objectives.  This leader will ensure that we are effectively and repeatably building out our infrastructure portfolio and meeting or exceeding quality and performance expectations. Job Qualifications  

Duties and Responsibilities: Provide oversight, monitoring and direction to operating our three 24/7 global data center facilities and shared responsibility at our site locations Lead a team of engineers supporting compute, storage, backup, and disaster recovery technologies Support and drive strategic projects that involve our data center facilities Develop knowledge of internal customer business objectives and map to appropriate design requirements Develop a scalable operations model to include a documented roadmap, goals, and objectives Ensure team is following a strict change control process to avoid or limit business impact during system maintenance and implementations Demonstrate leadership ability to back decisions with research and the "why," and articulate several options, the pros and cons for each, and a recommendation Maintain overall industry knowledge on latest trends, technology, etc. Define optimal design patterns and solutions for high availability and disaster recovery for applications Ensure delivered solutions meet/perform to technical and functional/non-functional requirements Provide technical expertise and ownership in the diagnosis and resolution of an issue, including the determination and provision of workaround solution or escalation to service owners Ensure delivered solutions are realized in time frame committed; work in conjunction with project sponsors to size and manage scope and risk Provide thought leadership in industry and to fellow team members across business and technical project dimensions solving complex business requirements Prepare and manage OpEx and CapEx budgets Evolve the staffing model to support the requirements of a global world-class organization Act as the coach and mentor to team members and technical staff on their assigned project tasks Develop a cohesive team and ensure their continued success

 

Job Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems or equivalent experience 5+ years of experience with traditional data center facilities computing architectures 5+ years of experience spanning the following IT disciplines; technical architecture, network management, application development, middleware, database management, security, run-time operations 5+ years of managing technical employees and teams Experience with hardware virtualization (VMWare) Experience with backup technologies (Rubrik, NetBackup, cloud native) Experience with storage solutions (Infinidat, Dell) Experience supporting AWS, Azure or other leading cloud service providers a plus Experience building and supporting regulated (GxP) systems Experience migrating legacy workloads from data center to cloud service provider (lift & shift, re-platform) a plus Experience leveraging Infrastructure as Code to reduce manual processes Strong understanding of network architecture and application development methodologies Strong understanding of SOA, object-oriented analysis and design, and or client server systems Experience delivering projects through an agile framework Experience working in a research environment preferred Possess strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to communicate up through senior leadership Experience in providing development guidance to staff and perform reviews  Possess good communication and problem-solving skills. Demonstrate teamwork, positive attitude and good rapport with peers and customers.
