Job Summary

Our clinical laboratory activities are growing rapidly, and we are currently looking to add to our scientific team. Medpace, Inc. has multiple openings for the Bioinformatics Scientist III position in Cincinnati, OH.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze experimental data produced by next generation sequencing (NGS) including small and large gene panels, exome sequencing, RNA seq and whole genome sequencing;
  • Carry out bioinformatics analyses to detect SNVs, CNVs, gene fusions and present findings or comprehensive project status review to internal study teams and sponsors;
  • Design, develop and validate bioinformatics analysis pipelines compliant with CAP requirements;
  • Develop new bioinformatic analysis/annotation algorithms;
  • Develop and maintain in-house computational tools;
  • Document workflows, protocols and reports for reproducible science; and
  • Ensure technical activities are conducted within internal and external guidelines and regulations.

Qualifications

  • P.h.D. degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology or a closely related field with 3 years of experience as a Bioinformatics Scientist or closely related OR Master’s degree in the same fields with 5 years of experience as a Bioinformatics Scientist or closely related. Foreign equivalent degrees accepted.
  • 3 years (or 5 years, if qualifying with Master’s) in each of the following:
    • With R, Python, Linux Bash, Windows Powershell, VBA and SQL programming languages;
    • Methods and modeling techniques commonly used in bioinformatics data analysis including but not limited to: sequence (read) alignment (e.g. BWA, BLAST), variant calling (e.g. GATK, samtools), phylogenetic analysis, differentially expressed gene analysis, gene set enrichment analysis, generalized linear model, batch effect correction, hierarchical clustering, and mixture modeling;
    • Building and troubleshooting NGS data analysis pipelines for customized in-house assays which comply with regulatory requirement such as CAP; and
    • Using commercial software: CLC Genomics Workbench and VarSeq.
  • Also requires good understanding of genetics and its relationship with various indications.
  • Experience can be gained concurrently.
