Director, Technical Services, Building and Facilities

Job Summary

The Director Technical Services Building and Facilities role is based out of our Senneville site. This role is responsible for directing all facilities functions at one or more sites to maximize the functionality and utilization of the company’s physical assets. You will be responsible for all aspects of the department including facilities maintenance, vivarium’s, janitorial services, cafeteria services, business continuity planning and all facility capital projects.

In this role, primary responsibilities include:

  • Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws including hiring, training, employee development, recognition, and performance reviews.
  • Verify appropriate resources are in place for the management of overall operations of the facility including staffing and third-party outsourcing.
  • Develop long term strategic plans to meet the space and technical facility needs of the business
  • This includes space planning, renovations, construction, and expansions.
  • Define, execute, and monitor annual goals and objective for the B&F department.
  • Manage project budgets and meet budgetary objectives, working closely with the Procurement division when necessary.
  • Establish meaningful and clear milestones for all active projects to achieve deadlines.
  • Collect and analyze project related data to identify problems and root causes. 
  • Oversee facility maintenance to ensure efficient and effective operations of physical plant.
  • Monitor preventive maintenance processes to ensure proper utilization of assets.
  • Oversee cafeteria services at the site.
  • Oversee the physical security of the site to mitigate any risk to the business.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and practices as well as regulations relating to the environment, health and safety.
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, transparency, and trust.
  • Remain informed on all legislation and developments related to job through self-education and external training.

Key Elements

We are looking for the following minimum qualifications for this role:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent.
  • Minimum 6 years facility management experience in a research/pharmaceutical setting.
  • Construction management experience of project value greater than $15 million. 
  • Fluent French and English (Written & Spoken).
  • Experience with provincial and municipal regulations pertinent to buildings and the environment
  • Experience with National Building Code & National Fire Code.
  • In-depth knowledge of building mechanical systems.
  • Understanding of GLP (Good Laboratory Practices).
  • Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio).
  • Project Management tools (such as MS Project, Power BI, or SmartSheet).
  • AutoCAD experience.
  • Must be able to perform effectively as a team member, maintain a positive work atmosphere, communicate effectively, and interact in a professional manner with management, coworkers, and sponsors. 
  • Skill requirements include foresight, analysis and logic, systematic and orderly planning, and attention to detail.
  • Open to embracing new initiatives, ideas, and change.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
