Director of Field Medical Affairs - Strategy and Deployment

The Director of Field Medical Affairs is responsible for leading strategic planning and management of a team of Regional Medical Directors (RMDs) who will serve as Medical Affairs Project Leads for IQVIA’s clients and be responsible for tactical execution, managing the operations, and oversight of a given project. The Director will also lead and drive the implementation of the strategic vision, direction, and deployment of the IQVIA Field Medical Affairs team.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight and management of Regional Medical Directors (RMDs) and Medical Sales Liaisons (MSLs) to support multiple clients, therapy areas, and across varying points of a product lifecycle
  • Track, analyze, and manage RMDs activities and their effectiveness to meet Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and other metrics
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) in:
    • The design requirements, operations, management, and delivery of Field Medical Affairs teams
    • New business presentations as well as develop go-to-market strategy for field medical affairs service offerings
  • Monitor and provide timely insights on emerging clinical and scientific trends to identify opportunities and potential issues that may affect medical affairs field roles, and adjust strategy in response to changes
  • Serve as a resource to the organization and clients to inform design, management, operations, and compliance requirements of field medical teams
  • Provide ongoing direction, oversight and management to the team, including P&L
  • Monitor and maintain appropriate compliance will all teams; abide by governing corporate and client policies, as well as applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations

Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in medical or scientific discipline (MD, PharmD or PhD) required
  • Minimum of 10 years in commercial life sciences (pharmaceutical or biotechnology) or related industry with at least 5 years of experience managing and leading field-based clinical/medical liaisons
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience managing and leading field-based clinical/medical liaisons is required
  • HEOR and Managed Care/Payer Organization experience is required
  • Proven experience creating and managing compliant field-based medical teams, including key opinion leader identification and mapping, size and structure of teams, strategy, programs/initiatives, compliance requirements, KPIs, analytics
  • Demonstrated ability to create or lead successful cross-functional teams
  • Knowledge of FDA regulations, pharmaceutical/healthcare market, and acceptable practices and related regulations is required
  • Clear understanding of PhRMA Code, AdvaMed Code, and compliance governing engagements with healthcare stakeholders (healthcare providers, payers, etc.)
  • Experienced in building strategic field medical affairs plans and adapting to client business plans as well as medical and commercial objectives
  • Well-developed presentation, communication, and influencing skills with the ability to distill complex information into relevant insights for internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong financial/budget and project management skills
  • Travel required as needed
