The Animal Care Technologist breeds, raises and cares for small research animals on behalf of, or for sale to, customers. Follows proper breeding and animal care procedures. Monitors animal behavior and physical attributes to ensure animal health and confirm appropriate phenotype; reports any findings. Ensures biosecurity. Coordinates with Customer Service on scheduling and order status.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains and monitors the health, production, and physical environment of Charles River or external customer animals within isolators, micro-isolator caging and/or ventilated cage systems. Performs animal husbandry which will include feeding, watering and cleaning cages. Implements breeding and sampling procedures to ensure customer satisfaction. Maintains physical environment cleanliness, biosecurity and accurate department/animal records within the internal database system. Reads and completes animal identification marks, sample animals for genotyping, at a moderate volume. Shipping and receiving process of customer animals. Complies with all Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and operating equipment and supplies per safety and ergonomic guidelines.

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.) One (1) year related experience in and/or training in animal husbandry. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: BA in Biology. AALAS certification at the Assistant Technician or its equivalent.
