Implementation & Prototype Engineer

This is not an ordinary engineering role – we are looking for someone who enjoys prototyping quickly, hacking creative solutions, and working with clients to delight them with last-mile coding. The Implementation and Prototype Engineer is responsible for two main areas: (1) working with diverse sets of people to understand user workflows and requirements, and to build creative technical prototypes satisfying those goals, and later collaborating with the core engineering team to get those prototypes into production; and (2) implement our solutions with clients, from integrations to small features to data engineering to bug fixes, with the goal of delighting our customers and end users.

This role is truly for self-starters who have strong technical knowledge, a passion and hunger for solving user problems with software, and full comfort in using their own independent judgment as they work on highly compelling problems in healthcare.

Key Accountabilities:

Workflow / Architecture IterationWork as part of client-facing teams to understand workflows, challenges, and needsLearn new subject matters and understand user motivations quickly, and be able to explain complex topics clearlyBe an expert user and champion of the core products and platform, and hold well-developed opinions on how the product can improve or evolve to suit client workflowsHave a strong view of what good looks like, and clear milestones that can lead thereTranslate sophisticated user needs to proposed technology and architectural solutionsTaking and incorporating feedback from multiple stakeholders – technical and non-technical – and adapting proposed solutionsPrototypingDesign and prototype core product enhancements, and work closely with core engineering teams to inform and implement critical features that are derived from workflow and architecture iterationMake informed and reasonable decisions on whether to extend the platform with new features, create additional services and configurations, or create something brand newDemo and review prototypes with key stakeholders, then iterate quickly given feedback from those stakeholdersBe flexible and able to walk away from experiments that are failing, as well as to double down on areas that require greater investmentTranslate to productionWork with core engineering and product management team to develop long-term solutions based on initial prototypes and testingCollaborate in writing code to implement the long-term solutionsHold the bar for what is necessary to achieve long-term client outcomesImplementationWith cross-functional project teams, determine and plan “last mile” integration, customization, and configuration projects to ensure client success and delighted usersAssist in triaging client requests, and hold an opinion on what is required, what should be prioritized, and what is urgent.Work with the core product and product management team on necessary product improvements for immediate customer successExtend the product in small ways to delight clientsClient InteractionBe an engineering/product subject matter expert on client callsAssist account managers and clinical subject matter experts as necessary in client interactionsRepresent the company and team professionallyIntegration EngineeringWrite necessary integration and enhancements code that sits on top of existing product integration pointsResearch and understand relevant client systemsCreate general integration points to ease future integrations#ParexelAILabsQualificationsSkills:Strong computer science and software engineering fundamentals, and a demonstrated ability and willingness to quickly learn what is needed across the full software stack to do what needs to be doneAttention to detail, ability to work in a cross-functional and ill-specified environment, strong ability to decompose complex problems, and strong desire to solve root causes of problemsAbility and interest in learning non-technical topics from diverse user groups, and effectively incorporating that in prototypesStrong oral and written communicator and demonstrated ability to work across cross-functional teamsOpinionated product mentality and design experienceKnowledge and Experience: Experience working with real-life industrial data systems -- data processing and integration systems, databases, data modeling and analysis, and data visualization frameworksExposure to machine learning, natural language processing, and general data science fundamentalsAdequate experience with system/data integration, development or implementation of enterprise and/or cloud softwareStrong organizational and troubleshooting skills with attention to detailStrong analytical ability, judgment, and problem analysis techniquesExperience with Linux systemsExperience, training, or strong interest in healthcare and biosciences preferredPrior experience with all or some of our technical stack – modern Python, Javascript (ES6), React, Node.js, Postgres, AWS, Elasticsearch, Terraform, Ansible, AWSEducation:No degree requirementsEmployment is contingent on disclosure of your COVID-19 vaccination status and, if relevant, proof of vaccination.EEO DisclaimerParexel is an equal opportunity employer.  Qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to legally protected status, which in the US includes race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability or protected veteran status.
